I thought I saw a Xtracycle in Edinburgh the other day, but it might have been a Surly Big Dummy. Either way it is something I would like to see more of, but I think we would need to get some cargo bike parking first. Actually I would settle for just having more cycle parking in Edinburgh.

The versatile Circe Helios Duo with Cargo Rack extension - wider than older versions. Relatively easy to convert between tandem and load bike use.

I don't have anything yet. Was talking to Richard about how good his cargo rack was and getting another frame up here too. Would you go for one? I have seen the Thorn triplet but it's enormous. For neatness the Helios style works really well. Think though that ScotRail may not be so keen!

The council operates a cargo-bike hire scheme. “We want to give parents who normally drive their children to school the opportunity and support to try cycling as an alternative to the car,” said the council.

@laidback I would say intrigued rather than serious at this stage but you never know.
My solution of a tagalong on the back of a tandem works but is a bit fiddly to manoeuvre, has quite a drag from three wheels and the tagalong rider is more exposed/separate than I would like.
On the plus side the kids can't fight with each other....
Would need to think about how to get luggage on it. I've found it easiest if we have a pannier each so where would the 3rd pannier go?
I also wonder about the weight distribution when riding solo. If I go up a small kerb on the Helios solo the back wheel can bounce in the air and your pedalling becomes very easy, which can catch you out. Similarly with ice (& studs) will there be enough downward force to keep you moving.
If they ever want a family to test it in the wild let me know.

There are increasing numbers of load cycles out there, saw a Larry vs Harry Bullitt in Marchmont today
I was also passed by a Nihola trike earlier today, but didn't get a photo of it.
There is of course the EdFoC Urban Arrow
which is
available forcurrently out on hire.I have also see a Boxer Shuttle hanging about Newington (no photos yet).
Only one of these cycles were in Edinburgh six years ago when this thread first started, so things are changing for the better.

So the Helios triple that was launched at the London Bike Show is a add on to the 'standard' Helios.

Retrofitted to your Helios for a mere £1,200...
Think I'll be keeping my tagalong for now...

ICENI TRIKES - must be a market then for load carrying trikes? One small problem with three wheelers is the fact they won't go through doorways. So they really are a vehicle that has to stay outdoors. That said most Urban Arrows we've sold seem to live outdoors.
Cost though is high. Quoted at £4450 inc VAT. Add another £1k for electric assist. You are paying for a customised something made in England though. Lot lighter they say than a rickshaw.
Made in Tawain 8Freight is £2275

Tried to interest the young couple who were round for a wee look at the flat today in the idea of an elecctric assist cargo bike - they run a bar and were complaining that they spend a fortune on parking as they need to shift stock. They weren't UNenthusiastic.

They should check out
https://greencommuteinitiative.uk/I also have leaflet on EU backed loan scheme which sounds good. Should be fine as I reckon we aren't leaving anytime soon ;-)
LB has an XL flatbed coming which can take even more load.
