That label was a surprise, probably extremely non-pc but my dad (now passed on so I can clipe) used to often call Guinness "Nigerian lager"!
Neat bottle opener mind you :-)

Anyone know where they are sold?

John Lewis has them. Paperchase too I think.

Didn't get one of those. Money towards a new pair of Assos shorts. Does a big jar of fruit pastilles count if I keep them for eating while riding?

If you have received money for Christmas, you might consider this very nice cap

@cc you probably need to wear it on a lanyard, like a bugler

Not sure about 'mostly white' - though presume they will wipe clean well(?)

It's waterproof cordura, they clean up very well. Inside face grime might need a little bit of cleaning medium to help shift the oil and rubber-based crud.

Went for the white as they match my bike lol, that and i hadn't spotted the purple ones.

Big reduction on all the whites. Good they still have inner pocket. Not indestructible. latterly I have any sharp object inside a neoprene type material pencil case I inherited from my son. Five year warranty. All good.

New saddle for Mrs G. Old one had lost its cover so gave her a wet bum each time it was left out in the rain.

Book from the in-laws: "Einstein and the Art of Mindful Cycling" which is an attractive book about how nice (and good for you) bicycles are. It is full of quotes like this one, from a philosopher called Ivan Illich:
"The bicycle is the perfect transducer to match man's metabolic energy to the impedance of locomotion. Equipped with this tool, man outstrips the efficiency not only of all machines but all other animals as well"

Stopping myself indulging in Rapha sale. Not allowed any more cycling kit. Did get yellow lion of Flanders socks from the sock guy and surprise DVD 22 short films about cycling

    from wiki:

"Illich was born in Vienna to a Croatian Catholic father, engineer Ivan Peter Illich, and a Sephardic Jewish mother, Ellen née Regenstreif-Ortlieb"

He was obviously just shilling his mother's pannier bags with that quote....

Had that mindful Einstein cycling book as present last year. Not as good as the ladybird imitation imprint dung beetle version first reader called Modern Art. Quite funny.

My only cycling present so far (at least one more present is to come next week when my brother arrives) is a random lower head/neck warmer mask from a friend which currently smells of some kind of cheap synthetic material. Assuming that it becomes cold enough to try it and it smells less, I fear that I will look like a wrestler, ninja, Star Wars character or a strange combination of all of the above...

    Merry Christmas ;)

other half was despairing of finding me anything in Pueblo so I relented and pointed him towards the Vulpine website. Hopefully something nice in merino will be waiting for me when we get home. And my inlaws gave me an Aeropress which is tangentially cycling related

I got a very large book with an ominous title - '1001 Bikes to Dream of Riding Before you Die'.
The front cover has a Boardman AiR 9.2 super aero upright. The book has a foreword by Boardman himself and is edited by Guy Kesteven.

Running at 960 pages the book weighs 2kg.

There are quite a few grams of errors though.
It's a big publishing mash up really - to be kind. If any other forumers have this as a gift it's actually entertaining for what it leaves out and gets wrong. So if you have one enjoy!

LB suprisingly manages to sell a couple of brands mentioned (Azub, Airnimal, ICE, Bacchetta) - basically there I think to make some contrasts with many, many similar bikes.
    - The Airnimal Joey folder is good but I would rate the Circe Tandem as even more inventive (fewer tandems than 'bents in this book I think)
    - The ICE Sprint folding trike is easily more inventive than 99% and enables all ability cycling. Yet no picture and wrong info. Burrows Windcheetah in twice.
    - German company HPV gets too much and even has their clear Streamer fairing entered as a machine
    - The Bakfiets two wheeler has pic of trike version
    - Christiana country of origin is Denmark - not UK
    - Bacchetta model shown is wrong one. No mention of designers.
    - No really fast laid back designs
    - no M5s from Bram Moens (arguably as influential as Mike Burrows)
    - Kirkpatrick Macmillan - no mention
    - 32 models from Specialized with loads from Giant, Santa Cruz and Raleigh
    - Surly Long Haul Trucker - no
    - Two Moultons - yes

A mixed bag and wonder how many other errors are in the road bike entries?

My family don't do big presents, so bike-related stuff was just an out of date - but nonetheless useful - book (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canadian-Cycling-Associations-Complete-Bicycle/dp/0920361048) - it is giving me ideas; and a new bell.

But I did accidentally buy myself a new bike on the 23rd... Now I really must sell the spare tourer languishing in my bedroom!

    "accidentally"

    But of course...

Bought a frame yesterday (ended on ebay).

I was given a very snuggly Merino wool Buff and some woolly gloves for Christmas. Tulyar brought me some special Brompton beer that I haven't opened yet.

I also managed to grab the last pair of Shimano touring SPD shoes from Biketrax's sale before anyone else got to them.

I got a nice Endura BaaBaa base layer to match the beanie cap I got last year.

A couple of discount merino things, which I shall have to be careful in storing over the summer as the one I bought last winter has some suspiciously mothly lacing at a couple of points where I don't remember having scraped it.

Might get myself a light singlespeed frame and give the drainpipey sparebike to the bike station.
