if forecast for Balerno is to be believerd there will be an easterly wind tomorrow from 9-11 a.m. turning to south then southwesterly ion the afternoon. If I was not bedridden with flu I would be out there heading east in the morning.

Annoying but at least the U-boat Capt (no crispy bits What is your name? Don't tell him Pike) episode of Dads Army is just about to start on BBC2 - if you miss it tonight because you have a life, catch it later on the i-player

Hope you're feeling better today. We're heading out your way...conditions and children permitting!

alas I believe it is a fortnight minimum from other people I know who have succumbed. I would invite you in for a cup of tea but you do not want this lurgy.

Lovely ride out the canal - much less windy than the last two times- then NCN 75 to Harlaw and thriepmuir and back by road via colinton. About 20 miles total. We'd walked the WoL a few years back, but had never got past Balerno. Couldn't believe the number of cars in the car parks (and the roads around). It was very nice though. We'll be going back.

Lovely day for a ride. Just wish we'd taken more food!

Quite a climb from the canal to Harlaw. The regional park is keen for people to access the Pentlands elsewhere and much talk of charging for harlaw and thriepmuir car parks which have been done up. Was mental on new years day. the farm had many cars parked in its grounds in addition to all the verges. the farmer does not like that and normally moves people on but this year too many people.

We were only on the Canal until just after the acquaduct, so not long, really, but I mentioned it because the last two times we had gone by canal it has been incredibly windy and unpleasant. Today we were tempted to stay on, but turned off on NCN 75 (aka WoL)

The hills were okay (stoker will help if pressed) but the mud was really a pain. With a decent surface, would ave been a lovely ride. The sides of my knees hurt now. I can only think it is because of the mud.

Ah, did you come up the WoL path? That is very muddy just now, particularly at the bottom of my garden [second last garden before you get to the end of the path]. when dry, very child and family friendly.

Wind did seem to be non-existent until 11 am so canal would have been nice. WoL path is more sheltered, I cycled up it one day last winter when we were told we had to go home because it was windy, seemed perfectly fine.

We stopped for a snack at the bench by the start. Would have waved! Weather definitely seemed to have changed - cloud and wind both. Still a good ride.
