@SRD, I left it too late and was caught in blizzard too. In fact I was going for the train but on leaving underground car park I heard this little voice innmybear saying JUST GO FOR IT

Last time I listened to the little voice in my bear when it snowed, I ended up hibernating for three months.

Looks like Dave's plow might get some more work tomorrow?

I'd been quite happy for most of the day trundling around in the snow (though had to occasionally swear at the occasional surprise blast of face-stinging sleet) but picked the wrong day to arrive back at the house half an hour before my wife got back when I didn't have a key.

Refreshing breeze. The whole snow tyre thing is getting a bit.....tyresome (sorry).

Snow wheels on; Snow wheels off; Snow wheels on; Snow wheels off; Snow wheels on; Snow wheels off; Snow wheels on...

Or as is going through my head 'the wheels of the bike go on and off, on and off, on and off... all day long'

Right then! Bl**dy weather! I've just put the mudguard back on. Why can't it be sunny and nice :(

Ha!! I leave my mudguards on all year. But like Crowriver, I took my snowtyres off a little premature.

After writing a blog post about cycling for 4 hours in pish weather on Saturday, I wussed out yesterday and got a lift home with a colleague. I have come in on the bike this morning - Edinburgh is fine, Livingston is quite snowy.

Oh, and thanks to the two people who were not capable of passing me without running their nearside wheel through the mid-lane pile of slush, and so showered me with the stuff. Not. Everyone else managed to avoid this...

B800 queensferry/kirkliston path got cleared and gritted sometime through the night, so it's no bad.

    A8 path slushy.

Tested the MTB this morning. Its pedals are the most compatible with my rigger's boots, the roads looked gritted enough to trade studs for 2" Marathon normals and I didn't fancy battling the wind without gears.

All went well, although the snow on the Broomhouse Path clogged up my rear mech on the smaller half of the block, so I trundled along it a shade more spinnily than I'd planned.

The canal seemed fine this morning - slushy - but seemed to have enough grip.

re: The icy bits of ice blown into my face. Well, it makes the coffee when I get to work seem even more cosy :)

Both legs of last nights commute home were fun. Caught in blizzard on the way home, luckily within 2 miles of the car. Had to slow down to almost walking pace as I couldn't see a thing through my snow covered glasses, shame I had almost hunted down a target on a hill (yes, really) who then cycled away from me on the downhill bit as I couldn't see.

Car leg, was just as exiting going along the A90 at 70mph in perfect visibility to then drive into a blizzard, slow down to about 30 which is still a bit sketchy, and despite the car that had spun and gone off the road obviously just minutes before, people are still hammering down the outside lane at 50.

This morning was fine in comparison, just a wee bit of wind.

  18. Rode up round the high road on Arthur's Seat to get some decent snow. Almost as if someone drew a line near Dunsapie Loch where suddenly the road was white. Very wet and slushy, but pretty - far fewer joggers than normal!

It sounded more like it rined overnight than snowed.

It was the ideal sort of fluffiness this morning to be able to observe the different patterns of airflow between buildings at junctions whilst waiting for the lights.

Cycled in yesterday and today, mostly slush as soon as you descend from Craiglockhart

Motorists are being warned to take extra care and avoid unnecessary journeys as a second wave is forecast to hit on Friday.

The mercury could plummet as low as -6C in the Borders and -2C in Edinburgh, making driving conditions treacherous.

I had a drift of snow on the peak of my hat on arrival at work.

This does not a happy Darkerside make.

It's a winter wonderland over the tops on the train line to Glasgow. Must be a drifting risk with this wind too.

There was a mini-blizzard last night between 915 and about 940 of sideways snow, it was very fine and powdery stuff, didn't lie as it was just blowing along the road. It probably ended up in a big pile outside Livingston.

A few wintery flecks on the commute in this morning. Pentlands looking wonderful from my viewpoint at the top of the tallest building in South Gyle.

It is snowing in Livingston. The snow that fell earlier in the week is still lying here (the roads are fine, but my lunchtime run along the paths away from the roads yesterday was made entertaining by snow and ice - there's no way I'd be cycling on them at the moment).

Winter Fact: Although routes are treated we can’t guarantee they are ice-free. Road users must drive with due care based on conditions.
