    BREAKING NEWS!

Its slushy and cold out there, I can't quite bend my fingures to type having come in side.

    HEAR YE!

Consistent snow falling here all day. Nuclear glow regular traffic keeping the base roads clear, but everything up and over the hills out is shutting off.

MET Office is predicting snow all afternoon. The council's weather seer has consulted some independent form of prediction and is predicting rain soon, so they won't bother sending out the snow ploughs.

    Place your bets...

There are literally THOUSANDS of micrometres of slush out on the streets around EH1. Where roadworking-vehicles have dragged mud up and down the road on Spittal Street the combination of mud/slush is quite slippy.

I have had more fun commutes. Prize moment was some big saloon overtaking far too fast, losing it on the mound of slush in the centre of the road and spearing back left. Completely left the road over a pretty big curb, scrabbled a bit on the grass, then finally regained the tarmac.

    I despair.

On train now, let's see how entertaining the second cycle leg is in Glasgow.

The wind was vicious riding home tonight. Biggest hazard was in various compost/recycling bins flying across the roads of Bonaly. I nearly got taken out twice by them. I wonder if I could sue the council had they hit ?

Rain rain and HUUUUGGGEEE!! puddles on the nepn. Edinburgh side was just cccold and wet but on the north side of the FRB was slushpuppy heaven!! The roads were fine (if very wet) but the cycle path through to DB was not very clear. DB its self has been swept / ploughed si was fine. My overshoes didn't really keep much water out though. Might have to invest in a pair of Sealskins.

The strong Southerly wind was great thoigh. I was blown over the bridge to get my best time over (S to N) ever!!

@DaveC - I reckon FRB=Forth Road Bridge but no idea about nepn and DB

Not so much fun cycling home directly against the windy on an old mtb with snow tyres. Forgot the overshoes as well.

NEPN = North Edinburgh Path Network

DB? Deutsche Bahn? Or maybe Dalgety Bay?

Conditions in Tayside have been noticeably different from here. It was still rather snowy and slushy yesterday morning in Dundee. Main roads mostly clear, but the rest......by evening much of it had gone due to blazing sunshine, but still crisp deep snow on untreated surfaces or areas that were in shade during the day.

Maybe we should have an "interesting headlines" thread(?)

It snowed in Abbeyhill too. Starting to melt away now. Arthur's Seat and the crags looking wintery.

GP Lugano and KBK both cancelled :-(

Suppose I'll have to make do with the rugby then

Craiglockhart woods were pleasantly winter wonderlandish. Saw two sets of MTB tracks, one going down the steps. Wonder if it was Mark of TBC on wee a Sunday gnarl.

Got the plough out for a bit of refinement. Not convinced my last set of tweaks were an improvement (but 'ablative plough technology' unlikely to catch on, so something is needed!)

Dave, what about brushes - the draft excluder material fitted to the bottom of doors perhaps?

    Charterhall, that's annoying about KBK.
