I think you're right about them being a little thin now you mention it. Ideally I'd have even less background, what I was really trying to achieve was the rider fairly evenly lit with a dark/black background. I was hoping to avoid a brolly or the like as its just something else to get blown down but I think the light is a bit uneven with out it.

It looks fine to me but just not what I'd thought you were after. Just my misunderstanding.
I have a spare brolly you're welcome to borrow.

I'm young, free and single(66.6% true), so any evening will suit me apart from Tuesday, since I'm keeping that clear for pub quiz night.
I suspect for genuine silly dark background we're going to have to look into Arthur's Seat, but that's not a logistical nightmare: turn up at mine(+0 minutes, since you're doing that anyway), dump stuff in trailer(+2 minutes if I have it all ready in the stairwell), drag to St. Margaret's Loch(+20 minutes), polite argument about who has to pull stuff up the hill(+3 minutes), I win argument and try to race you while you ride the Croix(+4-5 minutes, depending on how McCraw I'm feeling).

Cool, Tuesdays aren't great for me either but for more dull reasons...
I think I can work round the lights at Harrison Park for the moment but a jaunt up the hill might be in order at a later date. I'll keep an eye on the weather this week, if I do end up needing the shoot through umbrella I suspect it may have to be a little calmer than it is today!
I had another flick through LR this morning. This shot is tantalisingly close to what I had in mind but I need to think of a way to set up the shot more reliably so I can see when to trip the shutter. Less trial and error more bang, done!
It is of course still oof...
