That's a brilliant advert for the back of a bus 'If all those cyclists gave up riding tomorrow, they would fill 36 No 22s' (or whatever).

One reason TfL is keen on cycling is that it is cheaper than new buses/tubes etc.

The World Cup is also proving to be a good advert for why everyone travelling by car doesn't work very well (reports of 8 hour queues, etc.)

well, the south africa problem quite particular to settler society. most people there do use public transport - mostly minibuses - but the road systems designed on assumption of only a minority being able to afford to drive, and at the height of the glorification of the motor-car.

have just been editing paper about how school kids in cape town get to school - where many are going to 'former white' schools to try and get better education. despite the distances, almost none cycle. that's (one reason) why I said jacob zuma on previous thread for public figure i'd like to see on a bike.

So come on! What are the stats for Edinburgh? How many journeys are undertaken by bike in Edinburgh in a given day?
