Scotland has set a target to cut carbon emissions from electricity generation by more than four-fifths by 2030, underlining the huge market for offshore wind beyond 2020.

Perhaps this is why any talk of 'cycling and reducing carbon emissions' seems to have no impact on SG as it would have relatively little impact - compared with the potential of a 'new offshore industry'.

Perhaps 'we' should talk more about Public Health benefits?

If they do build HS3 to Edinburgh and Glasgow, they'll need to have decarbonised the grid by then or GHG emissions will go through the roof.

This was written yesterday before the announcement. Seems to have been an expectation of more than just electricity. Maybe in Scottish Parliament this afternoon(?)

"It's shocking they're only committing one per cent of the budget to measures to reduce emissions, while they motor ahead with a roadbuilding programme that will add a quarter of a million tonnes to the problem. Properly funding measures that seriously reduce emissions from housing and transport would boost economic recovery and create jobs.

Poor old SG. They so lack imagination and can only think of BIG projects (like bridges, dual-carriageways, HS2, generating plant, etc.).

They completely forget about all the little and distributed things (like energy efficiency, active travel, etc.) that combine to have a large effect.

chdot - yes. The Report on Proposals and Policies 2 is to be launched this afternoon - setting out how the Scottish Government intends to meet its carbon reduction targets. It will include the 10% cycling target and other great works of fiction.

    RPP1 said £1.32bn for cycling/walking 2011-2022. #RPP2 says £2.03bn on *all* new sustainable transport Proposals 2013-2027.
