Pretty crappy cyclists going at 6mph, was it a trike?
:) Great idea about the £500 levy, just imagine the cycle facilities we'd get, and hey it would only marginally put up the price of an Asda BSO by 714% (ish)

You don't think it would be spent on cycle facilities do you?...
So assuming Herald letter writer thinks that's price of an average bike, imagine that being the tax % on a car - and the money being spent on cycling improvements!
(I believe it's something like that in Singapore.)

Wow so to register a car you've got to pay $140 plus 105% of the open market value of the car plus an excise duty of 20% of the OMV + $800 road tax ....
it goes on. No wonder the MRT is so shiny!

I would have thought that 6mph was a randomly low figure picked out of the air by the letter writer. She/he did say it was a race after all.

I suspect the choice of 6 mph was to sound nice against the 60 for the speed limit.
I'd write it like that but then I'd make a good deal more sense in the rest of the letter too.
