    Can I just say that I think the folks at Eastside Bikes are really great. Quick, efficient service, quality repairs. Oh and the rates are incredibly reasonable. I can't recommend them highly enough.

    No, I'm not working for them, nobody bribed me to say this, I'm just a very happy customer, and I feel like sharing that.

  5. Still irks me the way my 'Sunbeam to Mercian for a respray' was dealt with. Mercian on getting no response from Eastside for a couple of months (after finding out the chainstay needed to be replaced and wanting to know if I was happy for them to go ahead) tracked me down on Twitter of all places and I worded it all out with them directly; then appears they also didn't pass on to Mercian the request that the bottom bracket and headset were to be retained once removed, which is the main reason it still isn't on the road.

    This was all a good few years ago now, and I'd be willing to give them a go again, but it was all rather disappointing. Just goes to show experiences can differ - the good thing for Eastside is that I'm most definitely in the minority as I've only ever heard good things about them from anyone else, so I was probably just a blip.

    Have Eastside been there for a few years now already?

    I think eastside have only been in the current shop for about 1 year - before that they were in the tiny shop up the way for about 2 years.

    Before they had it it was Leith Bikes and before that Sandy Gilchrist.

  8. They used to be further up the hill, but it's at least 2 years ago my frame went off for a respray, and they'd been there a little while before that.

    I remember Sandy Gilchrist:
    Me: "Do you sell Marzocchi forks?"
    Sandy: Looks up from book. "No". Back down to book.

    Leith Bikes was good though.

    @Coxy, yeah they used to be just up the road on Montrose Terrace. Originally opened by an American dude (hence Eastside) but I don't remember the year. Business was sold on the the present owner. They moved to the old Sandy Gilchrist cycle shop recently, last year |I think.

    @WC, that's a shame. Sounds like a complex operation.

  11. Sadly not. As I say, I think I was just a blip, but basically just involved them sending the frame to Mercian with a note to remove and retain the fittings, and paint the frame black. Mercian found the chainstay problem, contacted Eastside to get guidance on whether to proceed with the repair, who never passed on any messages. Though they did contact me as soon as the box with the frame in it had come back.

    Always go past the store slowly to have a drool over whatever is in the window; found it hard to contain myself when walking into the old store at some of the lovely metal in there.

    Sandy Gilchrist is heading to the Olympics as a mechanic for the Ireland team.
