  1. So at the weekend I booked four tickets for the rugby in two weeks time, and leaving aside the fact that Ticketmaster for some reason on the confirmation defaulted the delivery address to one I haven't lived at for 5 years which I can see causing something of a stoosh, can someone explain booking charges to me?

I've never really understood this. If the tickets is a certain price then why is there another charge lumped on top - is it the amount of money that Ticketmaster makes per ticket? 6% it was!

I've always assumed it is simply a cut that Ticketmaster is taking. If you bought ticket from venue box office it would be same price as face value of Ticketmaster ticket, so they add on their few quid to make their profit.

I'm sure it's not that simple though and they're probably getting a resellers discount when they buy bulk ticket orders, and this is further profit charges.

What annoys me is a booking fee when you buy a ticket in person from the venue. Or when the "print your own" ticket costs the same as having it posted.

Yep, and the fact that for this game it seems the only way to get tickets is through Ticketmaster, so you can't avoid the booking fee - so why not just make the ticket price 6% higher and TM get their fee out of that whole price. Okay, doesn't make the tickets any cheaper, but saves eejits like me whining about it on t'interweb.

(and last time I got tickets I did print your own, and yes, it worked out the exact same cost!)

Costs are separate so people have transparency. Ticketmaster systems cost a lot to create, update and operationally manage. Whether that justifies the cost they charge I don't know, but until someone else comes along and does the same job cheaper, that is how much it costs to perform the function.

Same applies with The Trainline.I remember when they started up and had their office at Chesser House, Edinburgh (now in Mumbai I believe),they gave a £1 discount for buying train tickets online from them. Now they charge a booking fee so I just use First East Coast,Cross Country, Scotrail who don't charge a booking fee!!
Of course all the budget airlines charge booking or "Admin" fees now for you doing all the work from home and printing out your boarding pass etc, which a travel agent used to do!! Grrrr...... I detest the whole booking fee concept.

I think National Express or someone bought Trainline?

I get bl***dy annoyed that each time I want to buy a cheap ticket online I seem to have to set up account with yet another fly-by-night rail franchise.
