    One might consider sponsorship for a race, as indeed we had for a Rag Week stunt in Bradford. S&N had the contract for the Union Bar(s) and the challenge was to get a full firkin to London in the shortest possible time. The winners used a motorbike with the barrel sandwiched between the pilot and the pillion.

    In Copenhagen they race on a closed circuit around the harbour district so I can imagine that a suitable option for Edinburgh might be to look for a circuit around Leith especially with so many bijou bistros and bars which the course could be routed past, to provide suitable viewing locations with victuals ready to hand

    There are I think a couple of Bullitts or 8freights in town and I could bring the Brompton with a trailer of some form - with a capacity of around 100Kg, which should be sufficient for a barrel or two.

    I would suggest that it might be modelled on the Smithfield Nocturne, and so could include other supporting races for folding bikes, and high wheelers. I believe there is still some profit to be made from selling drink, and given that some of this church may have connections with media/PR companies, who work with the brewers, vintners and distillers of this parish, to come up with suitable supporting arrangements. Now if I ever get a new PA I might have the resources to do something towards getting such an event organised.

    Perhaps a title "Roll Out (with) The Barrel" might be appropriate (or even Barrelling around Leith)

    This past weekend I had occasion to move an unusual load by trailer. A bay tree to be precise. Here's the evidence:

    Any advance on moving a tree by trailer? I'm sure someone out there must be crazy enough to try something like this...

    @crowriver - you made the Spotted thread!

    I'll see your tree and raise you a brace of 4'x3' bookcases.

    Great for claiming space on the road, terrible for frontage and drag, as I'd mounted them across the bike as a massive air dam.

    "a brace of 4'x3' bookcases"

    "I'd mounted them across the bike as a massive air dam"

    Individually? Or all at once?

    It's an important distinction... :-)

    <grin>

    For the sake of precision two bookcases back to back, so total frontal area wasn't doubled... I'm not quite that dim!
