The Bike Chain is now The Bike Co-op

We at Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op are proud to be taking over the reins at The Bike Chain. From today, we will be running it as our second shop in the city, and we promise to honour all commitments made by TBC. For instance, if you've booked your bike in for a repair, just bring it along as before to the same address, 30 Rodney Street.

If it keeps a bike shop going in that location, then that's good. However it won't be the Bike Chain we know and love, which is a real shame. I would happily divert far out of my way to go to TBC, I doubt I would for EBC (I avoid the one within 5 minutes fo my flat)

Yup, sad. I just hope they sold out for a huge whack and are now happily cycling in Corsica.

Not quite yet - we still need to pin Mark down for a beer date.

Indeed Min, I stopped by the day you had gone in and he sait he would be changing his username on here.

As for EBC, I'm just happy to keep a LBS near to where I work.

Good that it's still a bike shop, and there's nothing truly wrong with EBC, it's just.... not the same.

Glad its still a bike shop and since its just another EBC it does save me from the temptation of having to go down to visit.

    That'll be EBC Metro then.

    Does seem odd.

Can't be nostalgia for the days it had a smaller shop.

Can't be 'buying up the competition'.

MUST be for all those people trapped in the north of the city by the tram line.

It'll save me having to traipse up to Bruntsfield for click'n'collect next time EBC have a sale, I suppose. Pity about TBC though.

Eastside is still my LBS though. Long may they thrive!

Tried to buy brake blocks from them last week but told two day stock take tweren't staff I recognised, but knew Mark was offski. No mention of EBCness. There is a north south divide perchance that gives them an angle. The site is also split like Warrender with two spaces separated by the bottle shop. Also big basement.

The day EBC open in Glasgow I will eat my chapeau

Already got Dales and Evans. For the artisans there is Kinetics or Wheelcraft.

I could feed mine to an elephant as it is a Tilley.

Cotton duck version too. If it were black instead of white it might go nicely with a Carradice... ;-)

Shame... I've had great service (no pun intended) from the bike chain in the past and as a result I've kept going back to them. Was always a friendly atmosphere and felt I was getting an honest opinion about stuff. I'll give the new owners a try although to be honest I've not had the best service from them on a couple of occasions which was why I was pleased to find the bike chain in the first place.

I wonder if this is why another new cycle repair place has opened up just around the corner in recent weeks.

Another vote for TBC's excellent service, even if I wasn't the most frequent customer.

I was at Craigdon Mountain Sports in Perth at the weekend. They have Tilley hats in stock.
