Those of you on twitter are probably already familiar with this book that Carlton is writing and publishing.
He's launched a kickstarter for £4,000 to get it onto paper.
If you're interested, you can pledge here
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.
Done
£4,000 reached. Not bad for 24 hours (or less!)
Currently at £10,900 and still going!
One and the same! I even registered loveasphalt.com but, relatively quickly, realised that was a crap title. I was out on my bike one day and the roads were crowded with the johnny-come-latelies of highway history and I thought 'but roads were not built for cars...'
I changed the title and the whole focus of the book changed. As I can't devote all my time to the book it's taken a long time to research and write. The thread by those original posters who talked about Edinburgh's cobbles is saved to my research folder but I've not yet followed it up.
You'll be pleased with the outcome of your Kickstarter...
I was wondering (and it is just curiosity and none of my business) what the "extra" money will mean you can do? Bigger print run? Higher quality/more photos? That sort of thing?
Print run will be number of Kickstarter pledges. I won't be doing a big print run and storing some books for sale afterwards. The first edition will be a genuine first edition and genuinely limited.
Some of the extra cash will go on design improvements for the book. For instance, it looks like I'll be commissioning fresh new artwork for the cover and there's to be a logo produced for the MOTORISTS' FRONT OF JUDEA; what have cyclists ever done for us? posting.
These two graphics will cost at least £1200+.
So I take it if we don't pledge we don't get to buy the book? Better sign up then. Min a £1 but if I pledge a £1 do I still get a chance to buy a book and pay the balance at the time of sale?
EDIT rtfm... £21 PLEDGED.
Yes the illustrators are forming an orderly queue at Carlton's front door!
Hi Dave
Thanks for the pledge. The book *will* be available after the Kickstarter campaign but no doubt with changes and revisions and so on. It will be available as 'print on demand' on Amazon.com so probably more expensive than the Kickstarter version. This will be produced in one big print run, bringing to the costs down compared to the print on demand version.
Maybe a publisher may also want to produce the book but I was loathe to go down that route because I very much wanted to produce a full and free PDF version of the book and that sort of thing tends to be frowned upon by traditional book publishers.
Pledged for a Kindle version.
