We are starting our summer evening cycles out from Haymarket tomorrow evening. If we go out to the Pentlands and the reservours we head up the Water of Leith path past Murrayfield. We used to cycle to Baird Drive cross the bridge over the river to the west side of the river and then take the west WoL path and continue along under the railway bridge to the ped crossing at Saughton Park on Balgreen Road.

I have heard the path under the railway bridge, along the river is open/closed/open on the east side/closed on the east side/open but we have to cross the new wodden bridge and come back.....

Can someone tell me if either path which runs along the river/Murrayfield boundary is open or closed please? Are there any diversions over any bridges over the river or do we still have to come off the path at Baird Drive and cycle up Baird Drive to Balgreen Road before turning left and passing the school and then crossing to Saughton park path?

    Thanks.

The path that runs north from where the bridge at the end of Baird Drive crosses the river is open. I ran along there yesterday evening.

"do we still have to come off the path at Baird Drive and cycle upto Balgreen Road before turning left and passing the school and then crossing to Saughton park path?"
Yes. The blockage is just south of the bridge over the railway.

The east path was open on Saturday.

Had been closed for a bit.

    Other side still shut.

After going under railway, bear left (no choice) then sharp right between the new buildings and over the new (ish) bridge, then left on path at side of WoL to Balgreen Road crossing at the skatepark.

You can also do this - though I think you might have steps to get on to the bridge (again I run this way so I don't notice steps, if you see what I mean...) - that involves the new bridge at the new blocks of flats.

I hope I've understood your question correctly!

Actually I don't think my map is very good; when you get past the end of the new flats you need to do a sharp right as chdot says to go back through a different bit of the flats to get to the bridge.

Exactly as chdot says, in fact.

Cheers folks, I'm sure we'll find our way through.
