In which case that nicely sets up a move popular with the Leith Minced Beef and Offal Players, popularly known as the Pas de Saucison

    "Lorne Square"

I thought you were making that up - never noticed before!!

Like the pavement across the entrance (that'll be a 'safe route to school') - pity it wasn't better constructed considering it was going to be driven over...

    Lorne Square

I did a double take as I cycled past earlier - had to stop for a photo! Had never noticed myself either, even though I spent a lot of time round that neck of the woods as a kid visiting my Nana. I remember it used to be signed as a "play street" and cars were banned from it at certain hours of the day and on weekends.

Northfield Crescent, Smudge? Well, don't blame me, it was Stepdoh who played Meadowbank.

But while you're all busy cornering yourselves into the northeast quadrant, I'm going to use Dagg's Transference Rule from 1962 in a flanking attack and play Sir Harry Lauder Road.

    "Sir Harry Lauder Road"

    Disqualified

    Not recommended for cyclists...

I'm also pretty sure that Dagg's Transference only applies to roads built before 1962. Can you imagine using it on the Bypass? That's just crazytalk.

Can I have another go then? Of course, Dagg's Transference (page 213, para 5) applied only to Currie and Balerno, so I clearly threw you all off the track, you might say. Currie Station. :-p

With my head of steam from coming down the back side of Corrie hill and of course with the bonus move from the confectionery gambit, I throw a strawberry cream and end up in quality street

Not according to the 1955 boundary review, now if we are playing with a pre war board then I'm invoking the Midlothian question, every one more than 5 moves from the high street has to throw a shoe to continue. I hit a former councillor on the head with mine so, ferry road

    Puncture! Slumpf to Rodney Street

    Posted 13 years ago #
  16. Really, this needs brought up to date, so I've dug out my copy of the D. Anderson Comprehensive Amendment (complete with Airport Inclusion Confusion Extension 318) that I found in a branch of a Save the Children bookstore in 2003 (signed).

Therefore from Rodney Street the only feasible option is to look at rule 55(1)(A)(a)(mcmxcci) which states that, "When in a location which is within 100 yards of a desired, but so far uncompleted, cycle facility*, the player must adopt the 'moonlighting' phase of play."

Therefore I shall private hire cab it to Pleasance.

*when this particular rule was drawn up the Rodney Street tunnel route was still a mere twinkle. The pedantic player would suggest that as it is now in existence the rule cannot be invoked. However, by dint of the 1917 Mindful Moments explanatory notes drawn up by the late, great Humphrey Lyttelton himself, personally I'd love the Scotland Street tunnel to be opened up, and this in itself counts as 'desired' for the purposes of the 2003 Amendment (marvellous foresight there from Humph 86 years previous).

In which case I shall make use of my Edinburgh and Dalkeith Railway Timetable (winter, 1841) and take a quick stoat up the hill to St. Leonards Station

Min's reminder, and IWRATS' observation of the Atholl-Coates Shimmy, means that according to the 10-year Absence and Abstention (Scotland) Regulations 1978, this game is still in progress.

With the hoohah in town now, I'm going to quietly play Little King Street.

At the risk of getting a Queen's Warrant challenge I'm going to suggest that the penumbra of yesterday's eclipse was close enough to allow shadow tunneling? Fly Walk.

    Fly Walk.

Did you make that up? The very thought that anything should be made up in a game of Morningside Crescent!

In that case I am going to throw out a wild card and play East Crosscauseway which sounds as if it is made up but isn't.

    Did you make that up?

I've just harumphed my liver all over the IWRATS cave.

No, I type only truth into CCE.

Ha, some street-namer has a sense of humour. :-)

In that case I award myself the 3pm forfeit which means I can't drink tea for a week.

That's only my third-favourite Edinburgh street name.

No forfeit required. I shall not stand between Min and tea.

Ooh, sneaky move, steveo. Just as long as you're playing by the 'no circumventions using the M8 during Festival time' rule, otherwise you would find yourself in Niddry.

I hereby invoke the aforementioned 10-year Absence and Abstention (Scotland) Regulations 1978. Interestingly, subsections 3(g)(2) and 3(h)(2) uses the precedent of Lig Lury Jr whose lunch breaks merely marked a temporary period of absence, even when taken to excess. Frankly I think the author of the regulations was trying to sneak in pop cultural references and thought no-one would notice. At any rate, this game is still in progress.

Since recently built streets require a year's grace before being subject to the exclusion variations, I think I'll play the often overlooked Bannerman Cruik.

As a subtle nudge reminder (valid under the 2008 tram network revisions) I'm going to play Summerhall¹

¹drinks tomorrow night at the Royal Dick at Summerhall (see what I did there)
