Bob121 if you do go to gifford there is also a pub in Garvald (in case the cafe in Gifford is closed). I don't remember its name but there isn't anything else in Garvald, apart from nice people. I once went the wrong way out of Garvald (past the convent) up into the Moorfoots in the middle of winter. It was quite nice actually (and quite difficult to take the wrong direction but I managed it).

    "Forgot about The Engine Shed.

Start/finish your Innocent ride with breakfast/lunch."

I live just by the Engine Shed so that would make me like one of those people in Eastenders who lives right in the square but always goes to the caff for breakfast. I've never understood that.

    New one -

"Situated at Lochrin Square, Fountainbridge – Loudons aims to be a place for everyone to eat and relax. The premises are light, airy and reminiscent of Peter’s Yard, which is no real surprise since the owner used to manage the popular Swedish cafe."

Hey this place could be the solution to the hugely divisive peters yard issue and southside schism that's bubbling under.

    ( joke )

bah they don't open early enough. How are they meant to catch the early morning bike traffic if they only open at 8?

We could get in touch and ask them to open early especially for CCE meets?

If it's the bit I think you mean, then according to looking at the streetview on one side of the junction the road is called "polwarth crescent" on one side "polwarth gardens" on the facing side and then on the other side of the junciton it's called Granville Terrace! Simples!

ok, for those of us who get out of the city ! Park bistro, next to union canal, near linlithgow serves great home made home grown food, but take your full wallet ! Linlithgow has a couple of good cafes on the main street, good bakers too. Oliphants, both ends of the main street. Muiravonside country park has a good cheap cafe but opening times are a bit varied, comunity groups run it i think . South queensferry has a good cafe/bakers, on a raised street, next to the main prom, oppositte the museum thingy.North queensferry, if you can imagine getting of a train ,exit station, turn left, there is a wee shop, dont seem to advertise it but I have on occasion had rolls made up,you buy the rolls, the filling and they made them up, free tea was offered as well ! Not sure if this is strictly allowed but they were nice people.
Excellent van on the layby at crombie .Great chip shop in kincardine, does school specials, home made pizza is great !In Falkirk next to florists on mellvile street, I think its called food heaven, amazing deli, cafe, thingy. not cheap but some great stuff !Kilsyth, next to an old co op, opposite the swiming pool, a great baker, cheap and huge sausage rolls and belly busting steak bakes !Lots of free food alongside the union canal, dependant on season though ! You just need to know where to look !

Thanks for the L'gow tips splitshift. I work there now, but don't know my way round and am just about done with food from the burger van (which is OK, but not worth puting on the map...)so I'll be trying the bakers on the way down the high street.

Found myself a half-hour to spend near the canal basin and thought I ought to check out Loudon's cafe (such a sacrifice!). It's got a nice big space with tables, a couple of sofas, and newspapers to browse. There were a reasonable number of tables occupied, but it was very quiet. I was the only person there with kids! So, not yummy-mummy territory, although they did offer a free babychino, highchairs etc. No one helped me with the doors though, which is what I judge 'baby-friendliness' by, since I am out of practice at buggy-manoeuvring (current winner: my local Scotmid!).

Could certainly see a CCE coffee meetup here, although they don't open until 8am. Seemed to have a reasonable range of baked goods, but also eggs on toast, fresh squeezed orange juice etc. I rarely have coffee/tea out and must admit to finding the prices shocking (especially eat-in), but doubt they were out of line with other similar places.

What café do you suggest in Roslin for the brick-free Edinburgh to Midlothian via Burdiehouse and Straiton with optional bing scrambling run? Or will it be the sort of café where one can get a pint of ale? (Stewart Brewing based at Bilston Glen estate, hint hint!)

"What café do you suggest in Roslin"

I've only ever been to the one at the Chapel - a long time ago.

"Stewart Brewing based at Bilston Glen estate"

Yeah but - "Tours usually are on Thursday evenings"
