The tramway crossings have been marked out as a bollard hot spot and a no go route for cargo/long bikes :-(

Cllr Mcinnes has been appealed to, to prevent the change, but appears to be Edinburgh Trams doing...

The RAIB highlighted a lack of barriers to force people to change direction when approaching tramway crossings in their report on the person that sadly died nearby. I imagine this is a response to that

I get why they are doing 'something' but ai don't see why they are bollarding it to the point of unusability

Did some measuring this morning, the gap between the central bollard and the side bollards varies massivly, as large as 1m90 one side of the tram at Edinburgh Park and then 90cm the other and 1m29, 1m25, 1m8cm and 1m02 at the crossing before Edinburgh Park station.

I also measured a gap at the side to the bollard of 69cm at Edinburgh Park.

I think some of these will be difficult on a normal bike let alone a Cargo Bike or Tandem.

If only there were some sort of national standard for such gaps.

Say, on page 77 of a document called Cycling by Design.

and it looks like they're going ahead with installing the bollards.

I don't see how bollards are going to help with making peds and cyclists look both ways for trams before crossing. Indeed, for cyclists, they'll be a near-field distraction to navigate.
