Lower Granton Road consultation QR13

Slow progress, I passed this a couple of times recently and they are making slow progress of putting down a reasonable sized (width) surface. Still at the fenced off and hardcore stage.

The combined footpath and cyclepath will be in the region of 5m wide there. Only a grievance manufacturer would have an issue?
A bigger problem might be deterring pavement/path parkers...

Smooth, smooth tarmac this morning. Fences being removed. The guy removing the fences suggests this section (Trinity Road to Eastern Breakwater) should be open in the next few days.

I got this yesterday:
The City of Edinburgh Council - Cycle and Walking Improvements at Lower Granton Road
To the Owner/Occupier
T & N Gilmartin (Contractors) Ltd has been appointed by The City of Edinburgh Council to construct cycle and walking improvements to Lower Granton Road from the Trinity Road Junction to Oxcraig Street as highlighted in green above. The works include:
Upgrading the existing McKelvie Parade shared use path to 4m wide
Construction of new 4m shared use path from the Wardie Bay Garage to Oxcraig Street
New street lighting along the length of route. On the back of consultation in 2018 we are including landscaping, wild flower meadows, tree planting and shrub planting.
A new toucan crossing at the junction of Lower Granton Road and Granton Square
The next phase of the works due to commence on 1st July 2019 for upto 4 weeks includes:
Road closure on Lower Granton Road for west bound traffic only to construct a new toucan crossing outside 172 Lower Granton Road.Access Only for residents/businesses.
Alternative routes for through vehicular traffic are available by way of Craighall Road, Ferry Road & Granton Road
Closure of the existing breakwater access to pedestrians and vehicles and no parking enforced on both sides of the road between 121 and 131 Lower Granton Road.Throughout this work, emergency vehicle access and pedestrian access to properties will be maintained or alternatives provided.
We will make every effort to minimise disruption and noise, but unfortunately some is unavoidable during works of this type. We would very much appreciate your patience and would apologise in advance for any inconvenience that these works may cause.

Wee connectybit at the Granton Square end still currently nowt but Heras fencing and excavators, but the rest looked accessible yesterday morning.

In the days when I used to cycle that way home I was always a bit nervous about how low the wall is...

Not quite open but the parts that are are very smooth. Nice to see as this was always a pain when I took tours round before. (Confident cyclists only).

I went along it 2 weeks ago having been surprised at it being accessible. Was still some fencing left at the side but seemed open enough for us and the pedestrians on it.

At Granton Square itselt there is a toucan crossing across to the south side of the road. I wasn't sure if the other side was then shared use (Granton Road pavement is certainly wide enough but heads in the wrong direction). Maybe it is just so you can rejoin the carriageway on the correct side?
The cycleway appears to continue as far as Oxcraig Street, albeit with a less than ideal crossing of Lochinvar Drive. At that point it just ends.

Looking at the initial plans, this was supposed to be a raised table. Do we know if that was dropped or just not finished yet?
From the consultation report:
"We shall also remove the left turn carriageway on Lochnivar Drive and tighten the corner radii. This will give pedestrians

I was on this a couple of weeks ago en route to and from Cramond. Wide, smooth, nice to cycle. Really useful path to connect to the NEPN. Not *too* bad a connection from Ocean Terminal either, except for the on-road vehicle dodging. Pity it just gives up further west, but it's a start.
