    @unhurt

I refuse to believe that the UK of GB&NI could fall prey to Psy Ops or mass hysteria. Not in this day and age.

As an ex-subscriber to the Fortean Times it's rather delicious.

Meanwhile, favourite comment on twitter so far: @ariehkovler: What if there isn't even really a Gatwick?

“pretty scary if the airport systems were hacked into?”

    “or mass hysteria”

Conspiracy theories aside, there might have been one -

He said: "I can say yesterday we recovered a damaged drone close to the perimeter of Gatwick Airport... and we will be doing everything we can with regards to progressing a forensic examination of that drone.

"That's something that will be fast-tracked and expedited."

Or to put it another way - nobody knows nothing. Which is both farcical and worrying - if there is anything to worry about...

Maybe Gatwick will close again tomorrow due to sightings of a large bearded figure flying around in a sleigh.

    It’s all a conspiracy.

Specialist equipment deployed by the British Army to enable the reopening of the runway on Friday included the deployment of Rafael's Drone Dome system.

@SRD, indeed it does appear to be so.

@crowriver The member of that group which i know best seems to think that Assad's a democrat because he holds elections. and he's probably the least objectionable member. I find it hard to take them seriously.

@SRD, whether or not you agree with the opinions of members of the group was not the point.

The documents have appeared in the public domain, and the government have admitted funding the "Integrity Initiative" and have not denied the contents of the documents. I notice that a couple of journalists working for Scottish based news outlets are mentioned as linked to I.I. campaigns, in addition to others based in London who might be more obvious candidates.

In other news, Private Eye are now on the case:

@crowriver My point is that not only is their analysis problematic but they have dubious and competing motives, including ties to some of the most dodgy wings of the conspiracy-theory networks.

@SRD, I'd expect more from a respected academic such as yourself than this kind of ad hominem "guilt by association" tactic. That said, I can accept you may have political disagreements with the group in question and its members, one of them I think is a professor at your university? For clarity, I posted the link above because it sets out very clearly its findings from the documents released by "Anonymous". I'm not necessarily endorsing their views on the Syrian conflict, Russia, or the UK government's role. One does not have to agree with a point of view to see the benefit of certain information being presented coherently in the public domain.

Anyway, Private Eye and The Ferret also digging on story perhaps gives some confidence that this is not just some "conspiracy theory". Of course, that latter term is very useful for state actors attempting to discredit any criticism or questioning from non-mainstream sources. The fact that the I.I. is a Scottish "charity" with its registered address in a disused factory in Fife (and until recently, on Lothian Road in Edinburgh) is surely of local interest too.
