I’d like to see Olympic longboarding too. Just recently saw a clip of Josh Newman coming down a Swiss alpine road at speeds of up to 70mph. The way those folks carve the turns at high speed is incredible.

Brit who was second in triathlon yesterday had p-word but just cycled on the rims.
Would have been bit more of a contest if that had not happened.
Looked to me like the other Brit tried to break the Bermudan in the swim. Which did not work. But did put seven strong swimmers well clear.
They then set a pace in the cycling that spat two people out the back. The bermudan, Flora Duffy had won from the instant she transitioned immaculately and took her orange trainers out of their wee bags. The good runners were coming back at the end.
Like the tour for example in Triathlon the blistering pace is set early on and people fall out the back. Unlike the tour it does not then seem to end in a sprint or contest. Rather the pace of the winner is too much for the rest and is set at the start? This also happens in Commonwealth Games when the Bermudan won with same tactic of being much stronger than the others? Colorado training.

@gembo, watched the men's and women's triathlon yesterday and the latter was better for drama and excitement, except perhaps the false start in the men's - chaos! Notable that TeamGB athletes came second in both events.
Think I am getting a taste for watching triathlon, will seek it out on telly in future. Short enough to be watchable in one sitting... Likewise cross-country MTB racing, though not aware of it being televised outwith Olympics (notable exception Strathpuffer on Adventure Show, but that's more of an endurance event)?

I watched the women's skateboarding. The women wear sensible clothes - baggy T-shirts, trousers - instead of the semi-porn things that are demanded of them in some sports.
I've read that the Olympics doesn't get people into athletics, but I do hope that I might see some girls at the skateboard park inspired by an Olympic sport.

The Afghan woman riding for the refugee team finished last in the TT but she was riding a regular road bike which must have put her at a big disadvantage. Great that she gets the chance to ride in the Olympics.

I gave up on road.cc years ago as there were too many nutters BTL. I just use their fantasy game for Grand Tours.
Cyclingnews is great for live commentary and news, but best avoided BTL.CCE AND yacf give me my fix. Cycling Tips quite good too.

Amusing discussion between commentators on the BMX semi-finals, regarding the useful advantage that having a choice of gears on your bike might have. Presume most are single speed? So having an extra gear is noteworthy...

Should be allowed a sturmey archer two speed that you kick to shift.
The BMX round the track is like the skiin* races they do in the Winter Olympics. Get in front from the start and stay in front without crashing.

@gembo, it was a Dutch rider (forget the name, sorry) who apparently has gone rogue from the team and uses some kind of derailleur setup. Hot topic of discussion throughout the semis... He was involved in a big crash too.

I've enjoyed the Peckham Posse on the BMXs. The races are short and dramatic. I hope the young 'uns are inspired to take up the sport. Amazing Darth Vader helmets as well.

I'm not much of a sports watcher but I have enjoyed the mountain biking; BMX; skate boarding - all johnny come latelies to the Olympics and castigated as not proper athletics. I think it's because they all look like fun and play - in fact people do them as fun outwith sporting competitions. Does anyone belt round a velodrome for the fun of it?

There was a lovely moment when they were interviewing the British woman who had won gold in the BMX and the (Columbian, I think) woman who had won silver appeared in the background making "Well done, worthy winner" type signals in the background.
Any suggestions as to how I might see some of the skateboarding and BMX skills stuff? I like that kind of thing.

Team GB going to get lapped by dem Danes though.
Teammpursuit. Semis winners gives finals. Denmark V Italy. But then bronze is between fastest next two in the top six. Which I cannot follow as the semis are the fastest four. Unless they all ride again for bronze?

There's a nice back story to Charlotte Worthington's trick BMX cycling, which does look incredible.
She trained at the Adrenaline Alley in Corby, which was started by the mother of a boy who had his skateboard nicked at school. She wanted to make a safe space for kids to play at BMXing and skateboarding.

Watching Dafne Schippers in the 200m there reminded me of the Dafne Schippersbrug, a new walking and cycling bridge in Utrecht.
Perhaps we could hope for something similar in Edinburgh. "The Sir Chris Hoy Dropped Kerb"?.

Katie gave credit to Germany putting in a fantastic effort. I'm maybe not only one that finds too little credit being given for other olympians. Want local athletes to do well but every team and individual has they're own story.
Also...Team GB includes NI ? Must be odd being in a team that is named after neighbouring island?

Really interesting to see them absolutely effortlessly going round at 30mph. No 15mph limiters here.
