I suspect the miniature lake which always appears underneath the Abbeymount/Abbeyhill rail viaduct will shortly form, if it hasn't already. Worth avoiding as it's usually above rim-covering depth.

Getting lighter in Colinton and rain intermittently easing, remembered my waterproof jacket but took out the waterproof trousers as I'm on the folder and using a daysack today, and wearing baggy shorts which I suspect will be flappy and cold, DOH!

So why do you even have an anorak? Hmmmm?
The ride home, according to my recording, took exactly 14 minutes the other day. It's not really that long to spend soaked is it?

@anth For in the winter when it's almost cold in case I get a puncture a long way from home and have to walk, generating less heat.
It'll take longer in the wet as you'll be going slower as your braking efficacy and tyre-grip will be reduced. And you'll have to keep wiping the rain off your sunglasses to maintain a clear view.

But the rainwater will be acting as a lubricant and reducing rolling resistance, saving precious milliseconds, also air is generally slightly denser in this sort of weather so you can get more oxygen per breath into your lungs and therefore produce more awesomepower...

More power and less resistance are immaterial. It will be less safe to proceed at high speeds and therefore sensible people will go more slowly, especially given the reduced road-holding abilities of all traffic-modules, not just themselves.
Worse than anyone forgetting their anorak: I used both layers of back-pocket nappy-bag since I last had to use them to keep my phone dry on the way to or from work and didn't replace them, though I have a resealable sandwich bag which can be used after shaking out the crumbs.

Hurrah for second chances at soakings. Seeing as my feet will be soaked before I reach the first junction I might as well wear my sandals, though I'm still interested in testing the grippiness of SPDs in the sopping wet, plus they'll have all weekend to dry out.

My waterprrof cycling shoes are normally great on such a short commute (not enough time for wet-sock to soak down), but when it's torrential.... Aye, squelchy squelchy.

My slightly fetishistic looking overshoes are the only bit of wet kit I've got today. Actually don't mind everything else getting soaked but HATE wet feet.

Apparently it's not raining in Duddingston. Right enough, looking out of the window and Arthur's Seat does seem to be a dividing line point diagonally down towards Leith.
This rain would get Noah wondering if he was ready just yet.

Ginormous puddle across entirity of eastbound half of Melville Drive level with easternmost bus stop. If there's lots of traffic possibly worth going along the terraces instead.

Back mostly un-rained on, though I got wet feet passing through one flooded bit as they were dipping in the water on the bottom of the pedal stroke :-o then got properly wet climbing the hill back to the house, must be Friday, pouring with perspiration, out of control breathing and screaming legs :-/

Just been along Balcarres St. which has been cleared of water (presumably they just pumped it onto the railway?) Lots of grit/stones all over the road and quite a few cars sitting at funny angles.
