I rather like the subversive comment at the end though.
There is currently only around 210 metres of protected cycleway across the whole of Edinburgh. The longest continuous stretch is 140 metres on St Leonard’s Street. In contrast, miles of protected cycleways stretch across cities such as London, Bristol, Copenhagen and Amsterdam.

I pointed out to my councillors that Till's Bookshop hadn't closed down despite the installation of a segregated cycleway outside it.

IF Till's shuts it's because bookshops shut (even secondhand ones).
That crossing will probably bring them business.

The inconsistencies seem to be a hallmark of this sort of misinformation and fearmongering campaign. You don't need to be right if you can get people scared and worried.
I don't need to reiterate any of the examples I got from the brief discussion a Roseburn trader insisted on having with me on Monday, you can guess them all and most of them contradicted themselves in the following or even same sentence (i.e. it was both simultaneously too wide and too narrow, nobody would use it but it didn't offer high enough capacity...)

Cafe Colpamio - can recommend for a cappuccino that is like the ones you get in Italy, not Starbucks.

LivD: yes, I went back there yesterday afternoon with my wife en route to Cramond. The espresso was stellar: best I've had in Edinburgh.
At the previous hate-fest I overheard someone say that the florists were moving round onto the main road and that Colpamio was considering extending next door. If so then I hope they put some cycle racks in as it will definitely go onto the "Cafes" thread here with high recommendation.

Some campaigning and pressure does pay off.
Alistair Grant of the EEN asked on Monday where to buy a second hand bike. Today he's tweeted a picture of his new bike. Small victories.
If anyone spots him then give him a wave - he seems a nice guy.

I always say, you get someone to make that first journey by bike AND if they have a good experience they will be hooked.

The guy who runs Till's seems very pleased with the cycle way even though it's titchy.
He likes the larger pavements and the increase in footfall.I suspect he'd even be happy to go on the record as a supporting voice if he were asked.

Is it still the wee American guy that sold me a wheen of paperbacks 1987-1990?
I think the route does bring people from the meadows to the shop for example Morningsider and I go that way after peters yard instead of Forrest road?
