Anyone applying to tickets? Bike-related or otherwise.

Probably going to apply for some track cycling tickets. It's not cheap, but I'm sure I'll regret it it I don't try and then next year I'm watching Wiggo buzz round the track on the telly....

Wifely likely to be wanting swimming tickets.

Yes, we'll be applying for tickets.
We applied for lots of Olympics tickets. We only got one set, but that was enough for us to go down and see some of the free events (Time Trials, triathlon, marathon) and just soak up the atmosphere. It was awesome. I'd totally recommend going over for one of the free events, even if you don't want to put in for tickets.

My mother has very inconsiderately decided to have her 70th birthday on the middle weekend. Or possibly the Commonwealth Games has been very inconsiderately scheduled on the same weekend as my mother's birthday... ;-) anyway I had thought of a family trip to see the rugby sevens but that's not going to happen.

You are not wrong about being expensive - cycling is ludicrously expensive, esp finals day

We've applied for Judo. They are plugging it on the radio and on the website so I am guessing the demand is not high!

    OH **** OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!

How many people actually want to see this and aren't just applying so that they don't miss out?

I bet the venue will be half empty. }:-(

Here's hoping Chris Sherrington can get in to represent Scotland at Judo. He's just got into cycling / triking to keep fitness up while he recovers. Did 70 miles on his visit to Wheels and Wings at East Fortune. Not bad for someone new to cycling! Chris Sherrington on road to fitness...

Chasing down a velomobile going into the wind for 25 miles was probably a bit much though. ;-) All the best for Chris and the Games.

In the Commonwealth Games issue of Scottish Cycling we’ve mapped out the routes for both the Road Race and the Time Trial events, two of the Games highlights that you catch watch for free!

Audiences will be able to follow the Commonwealth’s best cyclists as they battle against the clock during the Time Trial event on Thursday 31 July, while Glasgow itself becomes the race track on Sunday 3 August with the fastest riders chasing each other through the city’s streets for the action packed Road Race.

The Time Trial will see top cyclists take on a challenging route (40km for men, 30km for women) that will start and finish at Glasgow Green with a single loop course taking in the great countryside of East Dunbartonshire and North Lanarkshire as well as the city’s East End.

The Road Race course, also starting in Glasgow Green, features a 14km circuit taking riders along Argyle Street, Buchanan Street and St Vincent Street before carrying on to the west end of the city where they will pass through Kelvingrove Park and circuit the West End before heading back towards the city centre and the finish.

For the men’s race, competitors will complete 168km and lap the course 12 times. Female riders will complete 7 laps and 98km.

And for those who would rather escape from the hustle and bustle of the ‘Games City’ we’ve described ten great cycling routes for you, from mountain biking in Dumfries and Galloway, road routes in Stirlingshire, Perthshire and Inverness-shire, to family oriented routes in Aberdeenshire.

But what might be the legacy of the Commonwealth Games for Scotland’s cyclists? We asked Patrick Harvey, urban cyclist and leader of the Scottish Green Party and he was typically frank about the prospects of an improved environment for cyclists.

It’s all in the latest issue of Scottish Cycling.

We'll be there on the Sunday. Although admittedly it's slightly less far for me to travel than most of you lot :)

Jumping on our bikes, producer Marion and I met at Central Station.

Bizarrely, some of the cycle lanes are shut, so I arrived a sweaty mess - which wasn't a great look for our first day of covering the games solely by bike.
    and:-
On the second day on our bikes, we came across a sign saying the cycle lane was closed - and this in the games promoting active travel.

My husband recorded some judo for me yesterday, haven't seen it yet but he says the venue is actually pretty small and so there weren't many seats in the first place. He did also say it does look full which is good.

Went to see the triathlons yesterday. A lovely sunny day in Strathclyde Park. Lots of crowds (weather helped, of course). The "bike racks" (some crash barriers set up in triangles) were rather busy (people who are interested in triathlon show up by bicycle shock). Didn't take the Brompton, but might do for the relay at the weekend.

In May, Wallace feared he wouldn’t be allowed to compete after he was arrested in the US for urinating on a police car.

ICE Trike riding Chris Sherrington won another Judo gold for Scotland tonight. Clean energy gets its rewards! Well done Chris for getting back to fitness via cycling / triking!

The cycle racks at Barry Buddon were full every day of competition There was also about 20 bikes in the unofficial staff park. It just goes to show that if you have some lovely off road cycling routes to and from a location as there was in Angus that people will use it.
