Cyclists stay back stickers

I find the 'stay back', 'do not pass on the left' and 'beware this vehicle may be turning left' pretty offensive, and I don't think they should be allowed.
However, I don't particularly object to 'beware of passing this vehicle on the inside', because that seems fair enough to me. I would certainly think very carefully before whizzing up the inside of this JCB (I've no idea what blind spots a JCB has) or of the concrete mixer on the previous page.
The difference for me is that some are a 'be careful because even if I'm doing my best I still can't see you' message and some are a 'I may not be bothered to look so I've put up a sign that tries to make any collision your fault'. I'm happy with the former.

It would make a lot more sense if the 'stay back' stickers were replaced en masse with a design that said 'Caution - crap driver'. That's usually far more accurate!

Would be good to make some 'Caution - crap driver' stickers and do some guerrilla sticker over-pasting...
Perhaps Grant The Trams at the Copymaid shop could do some for us ;)

Yes, much better if they said "Overtake on the Right". The Guardian article is confusing; we've allowed the creation of gutter lanes on the left as the key means of promoting cycling, rather than accept that other than on steep hills, we can normally keep up with city traffic and certainly dont hold it up, so they perform no useful function other than to tell us our place is there.

seems like Tfl have decided to take these off buses in london:

It's a poor picture but Stagecoach in Fife now have these -
It's not easy to see but the graphic of the bus is showing the left indicator as flashing.
Don't cycle up the left side if I'm indicating to turn left seems a fair message to me so I feel that this one sets the correct tone.

yesterday RDRF and the other organisations involved, plus representatives of the London Boroughs Cycling Officers Group, attended a meeting at Transport for London chaired by Lilli Matson, Head of Strategy and Outcome Planning, with nine other TfL officers concerned with safety, freight and fleet operations, buses, taxis, and marketing and communications. We are glad to say that the outcome was very positive.

"Well, we weren't expecting that. We printed 500 of the Stay awesome stickers because we thought it'd be a laugh. but we sold them all within about three hours, and the orders keep on coming. So we've printed a bunch more, and all orders should be fulfilled next week."
"The business card ones crop down to 45mm width if you want to fit them on a (wide-ish) mudguard and they're FREE to whoever wants one"

Those are totally ace. :-D
It almost makes me wish I had a car so I could stick one on to it.

That's great. I was just thinking I wanted some stickers like this for the back of the luton van. Just ordered some A5 stickers :-)

Still reckon that Make Eye Contact is best safety message and we ban mirror shades, as well as tinted windows to maximise unimpaired direct view between bus/truck driver and all other road users.

They seem to be getting bigger… I don't object to the wording here, but this extra investment is not insignificant if Sainsbury's are doing this to all their lorries. I would like to see investment in helping the driver see the blind-spots and taking some of the burden of responsibility away from the cyclist.

I object to the warning there... that vehicle doesn't have the blind spots issue that those kind of signs are warning about (it isn't articulated).

I object to the "Alert today, alive tomorrow" bit.
Implies that cycling is deadly. Whereas driving of course is not.

@CyclingEdin Thanks for the tweet! It's a work in progress. More details are on our corporate website - bit.ly/1oavfAA. Mark"

The vehicle – which will be unveiled by Mayor of London Boris Johnson at City Hall – features 360 degree monitors, extra side lighting for road users at night and low side guards for cyclist safety. It was designed in collaboration with Solomon and Mercedes."

well that's me told - I am sorry I assumed there hadn't been the same investment in the cameras etc... This is excellent if they are installing such monitors...
