    Sarah Boyack is also against renewal. So Jim Murphy is the odd one out. (...and Ed's shadow cabinet).

    "Many people have felt their living standards slip."

    Not Mr Darling, though. He's doing fine;

    http://www.theyworkforyou.com/mp/10153/alistair_darling/edinburgh_south_west#register

    but him doing fine has nothing at all to do with people voting for 'outsider' parties. Nothing at all.

    Cold wind getting up...

    Andrew Tyrie, the Conservative chair of the Treasury committee, goes next.

    Q: Everyone agrees Barnett is over-generous to Scotland. So shouldn’t there be a grand commission of the nations to consider this?

    Time to put the champagne on ice;

    A shadow minister has told the Commons that the Smith Commission will report a week today.

    Ian Murray, the Labour MP for Edinburgh South, was speaking during a debate on devolution.

    The commission has been charged with brokering agreement among the political parties on further devolution for Scotland.

    Earlier, the Prime Minister confirmed to the Commons Liaison Committee that the report would be made public next week.

    The Post Collective is calling for submissions and ideas for our next magazine release, which will have the theme of Energy politics in Scotland.

    In this issue we want to delve into energy politics in Scotland and its political, social and cultural impacts. We want to ask questions about everything from fracking and climate change to fuel poverty and community energy. We want to look at the emerging energy politics in a post-referendum Scotland, and to investigate the role of oil in contemporary Scotland by examining issues such as university research funding and cultural green-
    washing.

    To answer these kinds of questions, and others besides, we need you. We welcome submissions from anyone with a knowledge or interest in this subject regardless of previous experience, be they writers, photographers, designers, or data journalists. Our hope is to explore energy in Scotland in as wide a range of formats as possible, with everything from long-form articles to shorter case studies and interviews, and from photo essays to infographics and book reviews.

    We are committed to including a diverse range of contributors as part of our commitment to being a democratic and inclusive media platform. Post is ran entirely by volunteers, we do not pay for submissions but nor does anyone profit from the publication. Any profit made by selling the magazine will be invested back into the project.

    Contributors do however have lots of creative freedom, and have a real chance to contribute to an exciting citizen-led democratic media project. We publish under a Creative Commons BY-SA license, meaning submissions are free to be reprinted or shared elsewhere, and a pdf and an e-book will be available free on our website in addition to the print magazine which will be sold across Scotland.

    If you would like to be involved in this release please contact us at editors@postmag.org by November 30th with any ideas or further questions you might have about contributing. The deadline for completed submissions will be in mid January and the provisional publication date of the magazine is early February.

    Cabinet Secretary for Health, Wellbeing and Sport – Shona Robison MSP

    National Health Service – acute and primary services, patient services, patient safety, medical records, quality strategy, dentistry, allied healthcare services, national service planning, NHS performance, NHS staff and pay.

    Health and wellbeing – public health, health protection, child and maternal health, health improvement, sexual health, problem alcohol use and recovery, healthy working lives, adult care and support, carers.

    Sport – physical activity and securing the legacy of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

    "

    Shona Robison does understand a bit about 'active travel' and in particular travel to schools.

    Seems to be about to get two deputies - "Minister for Sport and Health Improvement" opportunity to reinforce the 'cycling in sport silo' problem OR a wider understanding of 'activity' and health.

    Will Marco Biagi get a job?

    Can't believe the Broon got a promotion. Must be a powerful figure in the SNP.

    Wonder who the Transport minister will be?

    @crowriver

    My understanding is that Keith Brown is the chieftan of the conservative wing of the SNP. They're frightened of the new members, as they should be. Feathers need smoothed, dogs need bones.

    Gordon Brown 'to stand down' as MP at general election

    In a sense, though, this question is moot. The SNP seemed open to such conversations shortly after the referendum – at a time when it looked like they could challenge perhaps 20-25 seats in Scotland, why wouldn't they be happy to give newly resurgent Socialist and Green parties a descent chance at a couple of the seats they weren't targeting? Now the polls put them in contention in almost every seat in Scotland, the maths is different – why would they give away seats they could win?

    In the end this will be a purely commercial decision. Currently a market of around 45% of voters. Problem is that many are used to sites like Bella Caledonia etc and that the new paper is 50p more than the Metro.

    Maybe a good week to do a trial. Thursday is the day Kelvin reports back.

    Lets see what Business for Scotland is made of. If they step up and provide the advertising revenue that newspapers depend on it has a chance. Of course, if The National has a huge readership other companies will step in too but advertisers will hold back and see what the sales figures are before they spend.

    Depends how many they need to sell plus how much it reduces sales of The Herald.

    People don't just buy papers because they 'agree with the politics' (some don't notice!)

    Will it have good columnists, sports coverage?

    If it keeps going beyond this week, there will also be issues of how much it criticises/'holds to account' the SNP.

    Obviously it will need to to avoid just being a fanzine. But too much criticism will put off SNP loyalists - though if it establishes 'a voice' it may become 'essential reading'!

    Interesting...

    They find themselves in the curious position that they want to cannibalise sales of the Herald (the daily that kept neutrally schtum and is therefore a traitor) while supporting the Sunday Herald that went all in on independence. But, of course, the likelihood is that the daily props up the Sunday. I suspect it's a zero-sum game.

    * I haven't bothered to check what the Herald daily's final position was. Maybe No, which only makes the desire to hurt it greater.

    It's a bold move launching a paper-based news sheet in what may be the end of times for non-electronic publications. By definition their market is restricted to four million people and the agenda isn't obviously friendly to corporate advertising. Still, I wish them the very best of luck.

    Just picked up a copy.

    Impression was that it was a bit thin (didn't have pages and pages about Corrie and 'Enders you see - no TV guide!)

    Advertising-wise... it had some.

    i do think we need a more diverse media in Scotland though so would like to see more edited and produced here rather than a tiny opt out at the edge of London and US based media highways.

    Mrs LB wrote to Lord Smith to suggest that devolving broadcast media would be vital to allow the promised powers to be looked at here. We have loads of talent in Scotland in all the creative arts so surely possible.
    i watched BBC news last night to see what they thought the big stories of this week would be. The 'Saving the Union' report didn't merit a mention. UKIP mania is now the main thing now that the 'problem in the north' has been seen off!
