Notice the complete absence of the word 'driver' in the article, or any implication that a human may have, well, made a complete @rse of driving the car. From that article you could really believe that it was a driverless car which had somehow failed.

    *mustn't* *blame* *the* *driver*

"A family of four In Kirkintilloch have escaped with only minor injuries after an out-of-control car careered into their house"

    Or rather

"A family of four In Kirkintilloch have escaped with only minor injuries after a driver lost control of a car and careered into their house"

[Tommy Cooper] So I was in my car, and I was driving along, and my boss rang up, and he said 'You've been promoted.' And I swerved. And then he rang up a second time and said "You've been promoted again.' And I swerved again. He rang up a third time and said 'You're managing director.' And I went into a tree. And a policeman came up and said 'What happened to you?' And I said 'I careered off the road.' [/Tommy Cooper]

Were they wanting to put in a porch or something?
