    IWARTS PREDICTS:

MPs will rubber-stamp the 2,000 page document without reading it, let alone analysing or challenging it.

Early next year they will discover that they are constrained by European competition law and that service companies are going bust and garlic-breathed wine-swillers are parading the haddock they just caught in sight of Macduff.

At this point they will start passing laws that contravene the EU trade agreement and the whole thing will start again.

“without reading it, let alone analysing or challenging it.“

Largely yes, remains to be seen how many UltraBrexit MPs explode.

They won't explode. They want to get home for port and gammon.

The explosions will come when they've sobered up and discover they've dynamited their precious union. The only way out of this is and has always been England having its own fairly elected parliament and leader so that's a good thing in the long run.

    'fisheries sell-out'

That’ll be what the French, Dutch, Spanish etc will think.

IMHO it's well worth checking out non-UK media to get a different angle on this story. The British media are far too jingoistic and Anglo-centric, even the Grauniad. Irish, German, French media, even Euronews is more nuanced and interesting than, say the BBC or other UK-only outlets. Will be interesting to see what US media make of all this too.

No point commenting on the detail of the thing until it's published and analysed by lawyers and foreign journalists.

What is clear is that Northern Ireland has been treated better than Scotland. Everyone born there can pretty much carry on as before if they wish to.

We Scots can take what's been done to us on the chin or we can do something about it.

The prime minister told his cabinet late on Wednesday night that the deal respected the sovereignty of both sides, as he urged senior figures to help him sell it.

On Wednesday the Brexiter European Research Group of Conservative MPs said it would ask a self-styled “star chamber” of lawyers to scrutinise the terms before giving its support.

The agreement avoids a no-deal exit that the Office for Budget Responsibility had warned would reduce Britain’s economic output by £40bn in 2021 and cost more than 300,000 jobs.

Public reacts with sadness as UK rejects Erasmus as part of Brexit deal

Speaking at a press conference after the deal was agreed, EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier said: “I have just two regrets in terms of our societal co-operation.

"Firstly, the British government decided not to participate in the Erasmus exchange programme. Secondly, the level of ambition in terms of mobility assistance is not in line with our historical ties, but that again is a choice of the British Government.”

Sources on both sides of the negotiations said the hitch was the result of the European commission and UK government having different understandings of the actual catches in British seas.

No Erasmus for any students or staff on the island of Great Britain. But in Northern Ireland it's a different story.....effectively the whole island of Ireland remains in the EU.

Barrie Deas, the head of the National Federation of Fisherman’s Organisations, said Boris Johnson had had his “Ted Heath moment” – a reference to the former prime minister giving away fishing rights in British waters in 1973.

Just a question... I couldn't actually watch the PM delivering his victory speech.

Noticed picture with four union flags around him. Is that one for each nation of the UK?

"It's not like we have the Atlantic Ocean to fish in," a French fisherman says of the impact of a potential no-deal Brexit. "Here, we're in the Channel. In an hour and a half, I'm in English waters. If that's off-limits, I'm dead."

“My experience with the UK is that you have to be careful right to the last minute,” the EU’s chief negotiator, Michel Barnier, privately warned.

Presumably "We" are not affected by Brexit, either materially or in terms of "our" rights therefore it does not merit a mention...

Apparently this deal is very similar to the one Theresa May could not sell to her party.

“Apparently this deal is very similar to the one Theresa May could not sell to her party.”

    Well quite.

Not that all aspects of ‘the new relationship’ have been finalised, plus uncertainty about how the 6 year fishing transition will turn out.

A million unknown unknowns about how any of this will affect all of us individually and collectively.

Still have the Covid smokescreen for some time to come. Expect some prices increases ‘due to Brexit’ (true or not).

Expect uncertainties about travel/health insurance, visas etc. What’s been decided about EU and ‘the rest’ queues at airports and Eurostar?

Will UK attract more ‘inward investment’ - who would that be good for?

How much will ‘UK’ Gov concentrate on advantaging England.

    Etc etc.

The EU had sought to offer tariff-free access only to those British vehicles that are made mostly with European parts.

This measure will now be phased in over six years but is less generous than the UK requested. There is also a commitment not to lower standards on the environment, workers’ rights and climate change, with mechanisms to enforce this.

Looks like quite a cute deal for Scotland if we can get on the EU side of it. I was cool on EU membership if there was No Deal (EFTA better) but this could be pretty sweet.

EU solidarity very useful if London tries to get nasty.

Only question is how to secure self-government now that the party of government have become quite so lukewarm on the subject.
