    You might be onto something PS. All the stones point to Labour being in turmoil and more intent on fighting itself than acting as a coherent opposition for now and for the foreseeable future, so if the Tories want to rid themselves of this bumbling, narcissistic idiot then what better way than to give him the keys to No. 10 (and the nukes) and let him ruin himself...

    Of course as we've just found out, these grand Tory plans to deal with internal discord through such proxy manners have a habit in backfiring.

    JP Morgan's market briefing suggests that it's likely that Scotland will become independent and launch its own currency in the wake of Brexit.

    These people aren't shamans or clairvoyants (they didn't see Brexit coming after all) but this will cause stomachs to lurch in Downing Street.

    Hedging their bets a bit there.

    It's a free web briefing, so hand-waving basically. Point is they've not been in the least inhibited about speculating. In 2014 the guy would have gone straight to P45 for this.

    I'm heading down the Parliament for 5, so may spot some of you there? Meeting friend(s), will be with bike, have stuck a couple of spare Ikea rain ponchos in my bag!

    What time does today's joyful expression of civic nationalism begin? I could amble by again...

    Google tells me 17h00.

    Just made my own poster. Cycling down so will head to bike stands. Closed shop.

    I've now met three leavers and am trying to understand why they think differently. Two are anti politicians of any sort and seemed to think their action would get rid of one tier in Brussels. They still voted though! Some may also prefer if there was no Holyrood.

    Personally I'm glad we have some focus.

    Met SRD; laminated EU/Slatire flag now bungee-corded to empty side of pannier rack!

    Think there may be a market for hire-an-instant-sound-system for short run-in event like this as we could barely hear a thing.

    You're right. We had faint speech from Richard Dixon FOE Scotland reminding us of the pollution we had before EU regulated such things. Norway named and shamed UK back in the 1980s.

    Scottish Greens were much in evidence. Alison Johnstone made great speech and a bit louder. Patrick Harvie delivered his to much applause as well. Compére Murdo came through loud and clear.

    I had to go around 6.20. If we had a PA system then it could have been even bigger. If they had a band it would be massive. Reckon it was over 3k. Maybe 5k. Felt like a POP size crowd. Maybe more.

    SRD came round the new LB shop later I hear.

    Took a shortcut home to avoid the fountainbridge lights and was surprised to see your bike had got there before me! new shop looks like it has potential.

    It was a lot more compact crowd than the pop one.

    Not trying to be controversial, but in the light of IWRATS comments on the previous page. I am slightly surpirsed that the vote for Leave was quite so high in Scotland. After all, just under 4 out of 10 people voted Leave in Scotland, as opposed to 5 out of 10 overall. That isn't a massive difference in the grand scheme of things (although obvs it makes a differnce to the outcome), especially if you are going to make generalisations about what a 'country' is like.

    how'd we (I mean, me) miss this at the time.

    (having googled, I am relieved to confirm that he's not an Edinburgh graduate. Oxford's history department has a lot to answer for though...)

    The BBC has reported the Holyrood demo last night;

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-36668609

    There were, I'd guess, about three times as many people there as for PoP2016 - maybe it's difficult to find an angle that would have shown that in the video.

    There are other good news stories too - for instance no politician has yet appeared in a home-made military uniform.

    "about three times as many people there as for PoP2016"

    Don't forget PoP counts the people who ride, not just those who hang out at Holyrood.

    Clearly a few thousand though.

    Deluded southern media still seem to think that as UK is a 'star' leaver they'll be able to dictate how we are going to withdraw from EU.

    I reckon this will go badly with whichever (unelected by the public of Scotland) PM claiming unfairness from EU.
    Cue bellicose headlines trimmed with Union Flags (nothing new as the use of the word 'frog' was common in bad old days in England).

    To play to this gallery any Tory worth their salt will lash out at Scotland for its 'unpatriotic' EU support. Basically the vote is like a giant test of Britishness.

    We're democrats - you can only have the future we voted for!

    @Morningsider

    Somebody, somewhere must design and construct these things;

    Someone else designs and constructs a social system that produces people who don't feel like total plums wearing them in public.

    Can Scotland retain EU membership without hurting our neighbours? Serious question.

    I have to say, on the few occasions I wear my full kilt outfit (BPC and the rest) I don't feel like a total plum.
    Don't think it's that different? Well maybe the hats...

    I had that same thought. I'm a product of a social system that produces men who are comfortable in jazzy checked woollen skirts. Every item of clothing is a statement of something.

    Johnson not standing for Tory leader. Now Gove is.

    All a bit surprising, I hated Johnson and May equally, but I totally despise Gove...

    Should I prefer him in the expectation that he fails spectacularly and makes the Tories unelectable for a couple of elections or could he do irrevocable damage in whatever time he had left as PM?

    Should really favour whoever drives most Scots to vote Yes in next indyref...

    Yeesh.
    I have not had time/energy/etc to post about missing the boat coffee last Friday. Truth be told I was in the office for 6am to watch investment people smiling, they will make money either way. I felt ill all day then held a wake for the EU and got some friends from Poland and other places to have some good times and make jokes and laugh. That felt good.
    Times go by that I forget it is happening (not often given how much time I spend reading the news) and when you realise it is not a dream you do feel numb.
    Last night I stood at Holyrood with a few of you, it still felt numb though.
    So today a coward ducks the hand grenade that Cameron pulled the pin on but has not dropped. So when the next leader opts to invoke Article 50 (and I REALLY hope they see sense and don't) and they get the grenade to the face Boris can pop back up and say "OK now in the hour of need I am ready because Britain Needs Me and I Shall Serve" violins will play angels shall sing, bunnies shall cuddle up to him and the sun will forever shine upon His Green And Pleasant Land.
    The Daily Ranger runs a story saying they can confirm that there will be Indy ref 2 yet it is not confirmed anywhere else.
    Someone said live on TV that the Leave side had no plan and that the only person with any real plan is Nicola. 92-0 vote in Holyrood to go and try to work a deal.
    She has a lot on her shoulders.
