“Historians will in time get to the bottom of the deliberate unknowing and the crass self-delusion. They can be charted. But this pure pig ignorance, innocent and unalloyed, is unfathomable. It will be impossible not to conclude that it was all part of some great strategic plan, that, if only we could plumb its depths, we could reveal the hidden truth of Brexit. How will they ever believe that the hidden truth is so asinine?”

New Scots green laws 'needed post-Brexit'

The notion of separate Scots law surviving the UK's exit from the EU is charmingly quaint.

RULE TWO.
Pardon me.

Oh, and now maybe we're going to withdraw from UNESCO.
This "global Britain" thing is going swimmingly.

Well at least the council can stop pretending to care about the World Heritage status and demolish the castle.
Posted 6 years ago # -
Well, that is rather unlikely given how thoroughly designated the site is.
(World Heritage Sites are protected through existing statutory designations.)

Education, science and culture? Enemies of the people, all three.

(World Heritage Sites are protected through existing statutory designations.)
Though judging by some of the eyesores that have been built/approved recently, WH status is apparently not protected by the planning processBesides what edinburgh really needs is Grade 1 office space (to convert in to student flats)

unhurt - I think Craighouse was protected by at least as many designations as the castle and we all know what happened there.

sterling hits a six month high against the euro

those heady days of 1.46 seem like a distant dream now

It’s all over (allegedly).

Irish Gov says it’s not.

This will never be over in any of our lifetimes.

"those heady days of 1.46 seem like a distant dream now"
Or even, just over a decade ago, when it was 1.85 (IIRC). 1.85!
You could live like minor nobility in a number of Europe's capitals for a modest outlay back then...Posted 6 years ago # -

Irish journalist writing in the US press 14/11/2018:

How long until the UK press catch up with Ireland, the world and CCE?

“How long until the UK press catch up with CCE?”
Not possible!

Here is the draft transition agreement. Five hundred and eighty five pages of control being taken back somewhere.
Mentions of Gibraltar: 31
Mentions of Scotland: 0There's no way Mr Farage and the ultras can accept this so we're back to square one whatever happens.
UKIP's take;
If this surrender deal is implemented, UKIP will be the political resistance movement, fighting on the electoral beaches, fields, lanes, and landing grounds. UKIP will never surrender.
Here we, here we jolly well go.

Oor Nicola hath spake too. The war continues...

The end game? (If only!)
All tories will support the deal on a vote for now. DUP / SNP / Labour / Lib dems can oppose if they like.
Daily Mail can then blame non-tories for chaos of no-deal? (Tories can live with that though, having no real policy other than to be in government.)
So the lack of planning inherent in the original 'leave' campaign is now an opposition problem. They get blame for crashing economy by not backing the only plan in town.
Luckily the opposition should be aware of this trap.

Give me a kick when this is all over, I'm taking my bivvy bag and going to live in the pentlands.
Posted 6 years ago # -
Raab gone- I hope @steveo has several years of supplies...
Posted 6 years ago # -
If you take your bivvy bag and find a boat and go and live in the Irish Sea then you'll find out when it's all over when a border patrol boat arrests you.
Posted 6 years ago # -
If I had a boat I'd be heading for the Med not the Irish Sea!!
*Paddyirish, my ancestors had a good sideline in cattle rustling I'm sure i'll be fine :D
