Slowly ordering up components for the Scaffolding Bike's replacement. Went into my Wiggle basket and half the stuff I'd put there had vanished. Out of stock. Not weird or abstruse bits - big brand headset bearings and brake hose and stuff.

I suppose it's just a taste of things to come in Brexit Britain.

It's all gone a bit Brenglish under May.
'Will of the British people(s) = will of England?'
    Bexiteers would argue that
'Will of the European people(s) = will of Germany.'

May and her cohorts use language that suggest they want to get into some sort of 'last battle' situation where we can see who is really in charge (or not) on these islands.
I note the FM is in USA and Canada letting them know that we're not ready.
That's the sort of thing the tories really can't tolerate! Tory disloyalty is done with GB in mind - and its tax free havens :-)

My view of what no deal would mean is informed by my chilling conversations with ministers, civil servants and heads of government agencies who have responsibility for essential services and commerce. They are sweating fear. So are public sector and business leaders. The people who would have to handle the consequences of Britain crashing out of the EU are very scared indeed. This fright is shared in the highest reaches of the cabinet. So if we end up in a no-deal scenario, it would mean that senior ministers had allowed it to happen, fully conscious that they were playing roulette with Britain’s future like a last chip gambler in a Las Vegas casino. Sir Oliver is surely correct when he says that the blame for a nightmare Brexit would be indelibly stamped on his party.

    They are sweating fear.

My experience has been that the more people know about the nuts & bolts of of how we actually deliver essential services the more worried or despairing they are. But obviously Brexit fans think "civil servant" is code for "doesn't do anything useful", so...

At least as concerning as the blatant lie is that it's been retweeted by a whole lot of bots... Misinformation / sowing confusion - you don't need everyone to BELIEVE a lie, you just need enough people to decide you can't assess truth at all.

A spokesman for the Scottish Conservatives said: “Ian Blackford voted for a no deal scenario in Westminster at the latest opportunity, so nothing he says on this matter can be taken seriously.”

Nothing to do with Brexit or Nissan...

The virtual absence of public explanation about the benefits of EU membership was exploited in the 2016 referendum by the leave campaign, and enabled its proponents to dismiss well-informed warnings, then and now, as scaremongering. Even on Sunday, when Nissan itself explained that Brexit uncertainty was a factor in its decision to build the new SUV in Japan, airtime was still given to Brexit campaigners denying this. Prominent among them, predictably, was Jacob Rees-Mogg, a backbench Conservative MP with no discernible car industry expertise or experience, whose Somerset constituency could hardly be further away from the north-east.

Thinking about my bike components it takes 35 or so days to sail from China to the UK. We're 52 days from large parts of the UK of GB&NI's legal framework lapsing.

Quite soon stuff that would have been dispatched won't be dispatched because the exporter won't know what the UK of GB&NI's customs arrangements will be when it arrives or even if the stuff can legally enter or if ports will be functioning.

Also we're less than two salary periods from being unsure who's working here legally.

Not only is this not going to end well it's not going to end.

It could become the UK's biggest peacetime emergency in almost a century.

    Cue tabloid headlines:
"Britain is at its best in a crisis."

May is already using Battling for Britain blah de blah.
It's Germany vs England - aka 'The Last Battle'.
Media will identify the traitors. SNP snd ScotGreens, Sinn Fein, neo Liberals, academics, people that aren't British enough...
'Whose side are on?' is the simple question she and the ERG want to get to.
JC knows this and is making sure Labour are on the right side of divide as the post Brexit war government of recovery maybe?

bax - I'd watch your teeth on them. When the time comes, my plan is to start with sauteed brake blocks and then "bacon" (okay, inner tube rashers).

I'm planning to make a trip to the Netherlands in May (if they let us in). May have to invest in front panniers/rack if it's that bad. Like the old days!

May floats the prospect of the UK and Ireland staging a joint World Cup bid for 2030, provided the two respective football associations approve the idea.

The irony being that those who brought this about will reappear in the south of France on German, Maltese and Irish passports.

A poll that my organisation, Lead Not Leave, has just commissioned shows the depth of concern among young people about a no-deal Brexit. They will have to live with the consequences of decisions that are about to be taken, and which they can see only too clearly will have an adverse impact on them for the rest of their lives.
