I dare say there are now elements champing at the bit to put down uprisings in west and north Britain, let alone hibernian Britain.

I’m not (close to being) a landuse expert, but -

It recommended a new system under which a nation's proportion of less-favoured land was key to determining how much funding it receives.

This would ensure farmers and crofters working in challenging conditions received the most support.

is this actually a good idea?

“It was clear UK does not have another plan,” a senior EU diplomat said of the meetings with Frost. “No intention to negotiate, which would require a plan. A no deal now appears to be the UK government’s central scenario.”

It's like an illness that has got into the Tory Hive. Busy Bs like Gove enjoy buzzing around pollinating any narrative which shifts the onus onto Brussels.

We promised to create Freeports and we are now creating Freeports.

Her Majesty's Government seems to be proposing to set up a customs border around Peterhead so that fish can be landed, turned into something else and exported somewhere else and have I been medicined or something?

From link from last link (from 6 weeks ago). -

Brexiteer Liz Truss remains confident that Boris Johnson can achieve what Jeremy Hunt can’t in further Brexit negotiations. She argued that Mr Johnson was putting no deal on the table to put the pressure in coming back to the discussion to make form a new withdrawal agreement. The Tory MP added that was firm on his stance and the EU would be able to ensure the UK gets a deal before the October 31.

In an extraordinary proposal that will be viewed with scepticism by rival parties, Lucas offered to broker a deal with female MPs from all the main political parties in Westminster, as well as the SNP’s leader, Nicola Sturgeon.

Clarke and Harman prepared to lead a national unity govt. I think this might have support of parliamnet, will Corbyn's ego be prepared to let it happen...

Whether you like him or not, Corbyn is the Leader of the Opposition.

All this media bluster about Clarke and Harman has more to do with Swinson's ego than anything else. The Lib Dems have 12 MPs, but their leader is trying to dictate the figurehead of a government of national unity. Grandstanding of the worst type.

Corbyn called Swinson's bluff on opposing No Deal and the reaction was very telling.

    Grandstanding of the worst type.

It's not completely obvious (to me, anyway), that she's not genuinely being pragmatic.

You know the one essential ingredient of a "government of national unity"?

    Unity.

Seems in rather short supply amongst opponents of no-deal brexit in the UK parliament. They simply can't help the scheming, back stabbing and general incompetence. All the no-deal fanatics need to do is run down the clock, while the Lib Dems, Labour and the rest do a passable impression of the Keystone Cops.
