    “We can’t go on being stuck. You can’t rule out having a general election if parliament cannot pass this deal and is still stuck, and you cannot rule out a second referendum.”

    Jolyon Maugham QC is in our fair city to ask the Court of Session to stop HMG in its international tracks;

    "Boris Johnson has sent a request to the EU for a delay to Brexit - but without his signature.

    The request was accompanied by a second letter, signed by Mr Johnson, which says he believes that a delay would be a mistake."

    "Hours after losing a crunch vote in a historic Saturday session in the House of Commons, the prime minister ordered a senior diplomat to send an unsigned photocopy of the call by MPs set out in the so-called Benn Act, passed last month."

    What childish and contemptuous clownery is this? An unsigned photocopy?

    When you think of the things the regime could have done.

    Off the top of my head;

    1) Sent the letter inscribed in microscopic Ogham script on an ace of spades taken from a well-used pack of cards in the communal lounge of a State Mental Hospital.

    2) Had the letter tattooed in comic sans on the back of a randomly selected Belgian tourist.

    3) Sent a normal letter but wrapped up in an old carrier bag full of wasps.

    Sans des études très poussées en psychopathologie et psychiatrie, impossible de comprendre ce qui se passe dans les têtes de Trump, Boris Johnson et des députés britanniques. Les locuteurs de l'anglais sont inquiets.

    When Bernard Pivot is worrying about English speakers it's time English speakers were worried.

    There's not really any silver lining to all of this, but a colleauge who wants brexit said be would eat a bunch of coriander (which he thinks is disgusting) if the deal was approved on Saturday.

    He was confident he'd won until some other colleages reminded him the deal did actually passed on Saturday (but ammended), so actually he's lost and needs to start munching.

    His face was a picture, he's gone of to the shop.

    Speaker has ruled out another vote on the deal, which has already been approved by parliament (albeit subject to legislation).

    Northern Ireland firms will have to complete export forms when sending goods to Great Britain

    Pick any two from three;

    1) Hard Brexit for England
    2) Invible border in Ireland
    3) Single UK of GB&NI customs territory

    Can't have three from three.

    It's almost like the Brexit enthusiasts have a subconscious determination to see a united Ireland.

    Great British, Ulster and English nationalisms do seem to be key motivations for many voters if not the backers of this thing.

    Michael Gove seems, weirdly,to be the sole Great Britain and Northern Irish nationalist.

    @unhurt - yes the quasi-united Ireland is looked at as a trophy I think.
    The latest proposed political shape/contortion of Ireland is something again imposed on the residents there.
    Brenglandia and the EU decided that it was best to not waste any more time and money on the DUP.
    The WAB proposes an NI state that is a EUK prototype but safely quarantined well offshore from mainland EU and within 12 miles of Scotland.
    This is a 'good thing' if you believe in a one nation Britannia as the annoying noises and legal challenges from Scotland are best ignored.
    I think the United Kingdom title will be gradually phased out as it's self evident that it is not a union in any real way.

    The European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill is now out. All 110 pages of it - generally, a Bill of this size would be subject to several months of parliamentary scrutiny. Anyone arguing this could be done in three days is seriously mistaken.

    This should have had 21 days in Parliament but was disapplied from from CRAG (Constitutional Reform and Governance Act) which says treaties should have the 21 days.

    Hadn't seen "disapplied" being used as a word until yesterday. As well as being used here, it also cropped up to say self employment was disapplied when it comes to EU citizens applying for settled status too.

    Beginning to think "disapplied" is a word with not very good connotations

    Following Boris Johnson’s decision to pause the process of ratification of the Withdrawal Agreement, and in order to avoid a no-deal Brexit, I will recommend the EU27 accept the UK request for an extension. For this I will propose a written procedure.

    Donald Tusk being much nicer to the Brits than they deserve.

    Unfortunately the deal has been approved (again) by Parliament.
    It might try to frustrate it by ammednding it somewhat, but a version of it will happen.

    Probably not on Oct 31st, probably not even end Jan. But at some point next year we will be leaving on it, and unfortunately not even a rew referendum can stop it now.

    We're severely Rule 2'd.

    I note that the electronic billboards telling me to get ready for Brexit next week have vanished.

    It's still a material risk so that's odd.

    General Election on Halloween

    Yes, let us chose our next parliament on the day when the threshold between this world and the next is thin as morning mist. See who pops through from the Other Place to rule us.
