“I think, as with many other things, our younger folks are more inclined to be Metro-accessible and more urban,” Marriott chief executive Arne Sorenson told The Washington Post in March, after announcing the plans to move.

If tastes keep trending away from office parks, buildings like 6116 Executive Blvd. and 10400 Fernwood Rd. may soon be hollow, oversize memorials to the Way We Worked.

South Gyle is a wee bit like this. After years being empty, the big plot on South Gyle Broadway that used to be the Scottish & Newcastle distribution yard is being turned over for housing. There's another big vacant plot on the Crescent by the Royal Mail that used to be GEC / Ferranti.

A lot of the office blocks in the older part of the park are empty or underutilised and have been for some years.

Edinburgh Park is only half developed, it's still about 50% wasteland. Some of the offices which were almost always vacant since construction have been converted to a Hotel.
