  1. My cycle cap was this morning's nod to the slight chill in the air. Should have taken it off halfway here.

I'm not brave, I stayed in bed 30 mins extra and caught the train. May have to ride tomorrow though, aiming for at least 2 commute days by bike a week.

    "Not as cold as yesterday"

It was colder in the sticks - about 6 degrees

Actually I think KB has its own microclimate.

My outdoor sensor said 6 too - but KB recorded yesterday morning as lower than today, whatever the actual temp.

  6. I measured 3C this morning at the lowest point, reaching 8C in Edinburgh. Strangely I wouldn't say it felt that cold though.

"Strangely I wouldn't say it felt that cold though."

Think that's partly due to the almost complete lack of wind - which seems to be going on for a long time recently - unusually(?)

Also, depending on when you're travelling, the sun helps.

Out the house for stupid o'clock this morning very cold before sun up, new down jacket proved useful warm in the cold and packed away when it warmed up.

Had long fingered gloves on since Sunday but stopped at leamington lift bridge tonight and removed helmet, gilet, and gloves. It was balmy. Sun also quite blinding

It was sunny out West too. Made it hard to see what was in front of you...

Never thought I'd say thank goodness for the trams. Never noticed any traffic on my way back from the airport.

Had a lovely long cycle in yesterday, equally lovely today (was a bit annoyed after an interaction with a driver so went round the back way to be slow and chill...)

Leith Links looked frosty from a bit away, but resolved to misty:

On the way home I've encountered sudden blocks of cold air on a couple of occasions (neither in hollows). Quite odd.

This morning I felt a blast of hot air as I approached the Innocent tunnel. Very odd, went from chilly to mild with the flick of a switch.

  20. Good, it wasn't just me! Was going to post about that exact same thing. I was riding through Mountcastle, thinking 'aye, it's a bit chilly', then as if a switch had been.... switched.... there was warm air. And properly warm air.

Glasses + dense fog = me regularly failing to realise that half the fog is in fact condensation on my lenses.

You'd thing after one wipe the message would sink in.

Running past the golf course on the Balgreen railway path and I could feel the cold air creeping over the path from the golf course. It never seemed to go over my lower leg and my upper body was still warm. Weird.

Had the opposite one night up the Pentlands last week, warm bands of air in pockets but mostly freezing.

I've noticed this cycling along the canal towpath on very cold evenings - suddenly coming into a block of warmer air - mostly in the sheltered woody sections.

@AKen - that was really striking this morning. Round Kingsknowe it was cold on my bare knees, but when I came under the bridge near Hailes Quarry it suddenly went warm (literally as if it was cold on one side of the bridge and warm on the other), and it was really quite a lot warmer to the extent that a little while later I had to unzip my top.

There's a concept in horticulture of the frost pocket where cold air rolls down a hill and collects at the bottom when trapped by physical features like a wall, fence or change in landform. I'm not sure how it applies to today's experience...
