Quiet Route #61 Wed 27 July, 5-8pm, Craigmillar Library. This route links Duddingston, Niddrie, the Royal Infirmary, Moredun and Gilmerton to Midlothian and Rosslyn Chapel, largely on quiet roads and traffic free paths. The project is to improve those sections which are poor for cycling and/or walking, including... Gilmerton Road – crossing and short segregated link; Old Dalkeith Road – new and improved toucan crossings and linking paths; Niddrie House Avenue – cycle exemption to the current no entry; Hay Avenue – shared use of Hay Avenue footway and improved underpass

Aaah. I found a bit of that back in May or June when looking for the fabled Straiton Pond riddle-gate. It was fine going under the bypass but then there was a bit where it gave up, first becoming rutted mud versus bushes and then tyre-shredding clinkers, so I went back and over a fence to the parallel road.

@wingpig Assuming you were heading out of town possibly you took a wrong turn in Dryden Farm? I was on that path for the first time yesterday heading out to Roslin for a meeting and the signage at Dryden was a bit vague to say the least. The signpost seemed to be sending one left along the old trackbed but the route actually bears slightly right and uphill.

Anyway I chose correctly (more through luck than anything else) and popped out in Roslin opposite the hotel without encountering any ruts, clinker or drama other than the horrid chicane-thing just after Dryden where the path rejoins the (minor) road.

I was heading back into town after going under the bypass on the Ikea road then turning left. I didn't think I'd have time to get to Roslin so didn't take that turn.
