    This year we've made one change - Ocean Terminal instead of Ferrytoll. This allows a shorter drive, bus trip, run or even cycle into St Andrew Square. (Uphill though ;-))
    I really appreciated the forum support last year - many in the shot below from last year with their free T shirt. If you would like your name up on correx on the arrival board and also try a new way of commuting (not 'just' about cycling!) then pm me or email: laid-back@blueyonder.co.uk
    This is part of the Edinburgh Festival of Cycling.

    If you zoom in on that picture enough you can see the veins in my temples about to burst.

    It's not a race, it's not a race, it's not a race....

    Sorry DaveC... you could always cycle in to OT and knock off the last bit (!) or drop by Ingliston?

    FT will return next year we think.

    @LaidBack

    Sign me up for the Newcraighall dog trot. Do you have my time from last year's race?

    IWRATS - here is the board - under 40 minutes as I remembered - very impressive:

    For those of us a wee bit newer around here, can you explain what all this involves?

    Aye, make it so.

    @Frenchy - it's a day of commuting from locations just outside the city, using different transportation choices.

    It's not a race. Apparently. It's also not extremely important that the bike wins. Apparently.

    Here's last year's thread which might explain a bit:

    I'll check to see where Enterprise Car will be.
    Is Ingliston best side of town for you?

    @LaidBack

    Alas I must withdraw, apologies for that. The bus will have to shame itself, which I'm quite sure it will.

    @IWRATS
    That's OK.
    If anyone can take a bus or train from Newcraighall then let me know.
    Last year Roibeard did a bike / train leg from there.

    Yeah I'm ESPC Corstorphine. Right beside a tram stop.

    @LaidBack - I'd be happy to take a bike/train leg from Newcraighall (I'm just down the road in Musselburgh) if that helps.

    I very much enjoyed that - thanks a lot @Laidback. I got to have good chats with John Lauder and Daisy of sustrans - both excellent folk. The children got all sorts of prizes which they are treasuring as if I'd won an olympic medal. i am not disabusing them of this.

    I have a video of my route - 24 minutes exactly pretty much from NewCraigHall via the innocent - exactly the same time as last year. @Laidback - I'm sending you the dropbox link to your email as SEStrans people said they'd be interested in it.

    Thanks Algo... and to all participants. Appreciate we did have a couple of call offs but it all came right in the end. Mrs LB had slowest journey in thanks to a 20 min wait for the tram at Edinburgh Park interchange.
    Neill Hope from Electric Bike Co had fastest journey in on his Borse(?) mid-drive Giant E-bike. A mere 12 mins from Ocean Terminal.
    Fast 20 min race bike times in from Straiton.
    Klaxon though outstyled many on his black & orange Paper Bike. Arriving with i-pod and normal clothes and looking ready for work.
    Youngest riders were Hannah and her twins on the rented Urban Arrow. Our only female cycle user and our only multiple occupancy vehicle.
    Julia did outrun the bus from Straiton. Loads of other interesting comparisons in this snapshot of the time taken to do routes in the city. As usual transit times were helped by being pre-rush hour... not that it matters much on a bike.

    Big thanks also to @chdot for providing the 8Freight to help move our aluminium and correx stands. Got slightly wet cardboard packing but drying out at shop.

    Looking at the cycling that took part.... my unscientific thoughts.

    Prizes for 'normalising' cycling should go to Algo and Klaxon I think.
    Both entered without wearing commercial branding on their non fluorescent clothing. They see cycling as a transport activity so no need for go faster stripes etc! Think this applies to most on here although the Strava tendency is always lurking!

    John Lauder was more cycling attired but with red waterproof. Tourquoise / blue Brompton (the bike of choice for Sustranites it seems).

    Hannah and her twins were in a category of her own as cargo bikes are still quite rare in Edinburgh. As a returnee she did very well as was quite a long and busy (in places) route. She wore brighter clothing and this was her choice of course.

    Straiton leg had most Sportive type action with Sportive style bikes trying to take Strava sections. This is much more like running to work and appeals to some but should not be the only way to use a bike.

    We had a 'No show' on three bikes from Ocean Terminal. (Thanks to people for contacting me though as when a bike doesn't turn up we can get worried.) The only cyclist on that leg was hi-speed Neill Hope on his EB. He used less energy than walking from a parked car I reckon. While we all like 'pure' cycling we can't un-invent electric assist. Let's see if it grows cycling by taking some people out of cars.

    Electron Wheels also had a good ride in civilian clothing on his AtoB EB. He was only 'beaten' by 3 mins. Mainly due to the circuitous nature of the bike path out of Ingliston. By the time he had got to the A8 bike path the car was already at RBS.

    Very grateful to everyone of course. Everyone contributes something on this. If I've missed someone then let me know and will put right once I'm back on my mac.

    That was 17 miles before work and I wasn't much into the sweaty territory. I certainly wasn't needing a shower.

    Still not sure if I fancy a Gyle area commute by bike, it goes kinda quickly once on the A8 but Leith Walk to Haymarket is not good by any route.
