Went to the Greenfleet event at Ingliston on 5th but with the lane closure on the A8 the queue stacked back and I hopped off the coach at Newbridge.

Glad I did because then I was able to try-out the newly built cycle route - nice and wide where it is in the open BUT rather compromised by lamp posts, bus stops and unkempt hedges at the Ratho end

Some trimming needed? Markings on footway pavement to highlight obstructions?

Anyone seen the next phase yet?

They improved the Southside path last year, will do the North side path by the Highland Show Ground this year and come back to improve the junctions next year.

  3. Guess that means I'll get more people shouting at me to use the cycle path

As long as you are devoid of two extra redundant wheels, angry motorists will shout at you

The usual- so much better than what it has been before, but not as good as it could be- there are some obstructions, but imagine them with a narrower bumpier path.

Just don't know what can be done about some of the scary blind side roads- Gogarstone Road on the S side is particularly frightening from two different directions...

@paddyirish I agree, compared to the state of the route before, the work that's been done on the A8 path is good but not as good as it could be. Compared to the narrow, bumpy, poorly surfaced sections that we were using before, for the moment I'm pretty happy with what's been done.

I went to the drop-in session at Corstorphine Library in 2015 and several of us flagged those side roads. The Council officer hadn't been aware of those particular issues but to his credit he took that away and the project was re-phased. We need to wait till next year (as far as I know) but they will be improving access at those side roads. Our request for priority hasn't been taken forward but corner radii and sight lines are to be improved in favour of path users. In the meantime, I'll continue to approach Gogarstone Road with great care. That's the worst junction in my opinion although driver behaviour at Lochend Road means it's not particularly pleasant to negotiate during rush hour.
