    Nice to be reminded, as I squint at what appears to be a retained motorway-style slip road off an inexplicably 40mph residential street which crosses a cycle path, that despite grumbles we've actually made quite a lot of progress in Edinburgh...

    I've cycled that way a few times in the past, on DIY audaxes. I never used the A road any more than I had to though, preferring the Sustrans route which uses quiet back roads. Less direct but so much more civilised.

    I daresay a segregated bike lane/shared use footway will be A Good Thing for commuters but perhaps not the most pleasant route.
