Out in the Newbridge estate, we cycled past a big Edinburgh council street cleaning lorry, stopped on the road, with muck pouring out of the hose at back. Appeared to be dumping whatever it had recently sucked up. Vile and nasty. Took a picture. What should we do with it?

Further to above, Edinburgh is now divided into 6 areas dealing with many of the things 'we' come across.

As some people on here have found, it's good to get a local contact.
Sometimes it's good to go to Councillors who can get things done - partly depends on individual councillor and also how intractable the problem is!
One-offs seem to be simpler than 'systematic' - e.g. making sure Innocent vegetation gets cut back before it becomes a problem!

Tricky one. Depends on what was being pumped out and whether the Council have the licenses in place for releasing this stuff into the environment/sewer system. In the first instance I would raise this with the Council (not sure which department, perhaps a CEC poster could help) - just to establish what was going on. If there was a pollution incident then contact SEPA, pollution hotline 0800 80 70 60.

529 3030 would be a place to start, off the top of my head. I can check properly tomorrow if you like.
