Unbelievably, a guy driving out of Fairmilehead this evening with a tablet stuck to his windscreen, watching a tennis match as he drove.

Nobrakes . Well Andy Murray was playing so it doesn't count... ;-)(!) Andy Murray beats Kei Nishikori 6-7, 6-4, 6-4
That is crazy - though I do see cars with phone projected onto the window in a heads up avionics style display. Luxury car type of course. No riff raff.
Basically manufacturers are telling people that they should be connected in the car so regulators have to ban such gizmos. Holding your tablet up is the DIY copy. I know the heads up display is transparent but even so...

I'm willing to bet aviation-style HUDs are just as distracting as normal screens. The only value would be augmented reality overlays - not the tennis!

That guy should be headed straight to Saughton.

I always thought that shoaling meant going the wrong way up a one way street on a bike, sometimes praying in defence that the RTO is only addressed at motorised traffic so they have a right to go the 'wrong way' even without a segregated or marked lane. But is that salmoning?
Posted 8 years ago # -
Salmoning is indeed going the wrong way, like salmon and their irresponsible attitude to accepted river flow and gravity, ultimately giving other law-abiding fish a bad name.

The guy who was driving the wrong way down the Road Closed section of George Street this evening.

Lady in blue car a couple of days ago turning, after some deliberation, from Leven Terrace into Valleyfield Street (i.e. wrong way on a one-way street). Plate didn't start with S so maybe a confused visitor in that Tollcross warren of one way streets but even so there's a rather prominent sign there...

Texting driver in Gilmerton this morning. Not that they could see much out of their only partially defrosted window even if they were looking out of it.

Freezing and misty, so selfishness was amplified on Willowbrae Road this morning.

Close pass from big red Charlie Irons coach N100 CHA this morning on Colinton Road near to Redford barracks.
It's a tricky road width to ride defensively as you could just about argue that there's enough room for a car to safely a pass a cycle without crossing the centre lines. But certainly not enough room for a coach to pass a cycle without cross the centre line, as I discovered this morning.

Yet again I had a close overtake followed by an immediate left turn into the Capital Hotel. I have a feeling it was the same driver as last week.
I will pull in to the car park if it happens again.

I pulled aside for an ambulance to pass on Leith Walk yesterday. So the SUV driver behind me took that as a cue to overtake, get in the way of the ambulance and generally act like a prize turkey.

complete hypodermic driving a big black VW on Northfield Broadway this morning. I was took the lane heading through a cone made chicane. He didnt like that so rammed on his horn until he could pass me.
Caught him and challenged him at the Portobello Road junction. His justification was I was driving in the middle of the road.
I pointed out I was allowed to ride in the middle of the road, but he was not allowed to use his vehicle to intimidate me. He seemed convinced he was allowed to, if I "was driving in the middle of the road getting in his way"
He genuinely seemed convinced he was right in this (lack of) respect.
As I was only a few minutes out the door, this fair grumped me up. So much so that when on Montrose Terrace a Mackenzies Travel (East Lothian taxi) minibus pulled out from his stationary right hand lane into the left hand lane forcing me to emergency stop, he got both barrels of every expletive I could muster.
TBH, I fair enjoyed the next 30 minutes of my commute having got that off my chest.

A car flying a huge saltire and a lion rampant blazed through the red at the West Port crossing, just as I was about to cross.

An hearse, overtaking very closely on the 20mph bit of the park road between the car park and the exit to Meadowbank Terrace. They were three or four back in the queue at the lights at the King's Road junction when I filtered to the bike box.

An hearse
I've had similar from a hearse before.
The driver didn't seem to understand my comments about them trying to "drum up business".
Posted 8 years ago # -
I don't have the footage anymore, but turned up a screengrab in a tweet (https://twitter.com/cocteautriplets/status/431884585434374145) of the hearse that squeezed me into the kerb by trying to overtake me as we approached a traffic island a few years back.
Posted 8 years ago # -
Presumably the hearse I saw crawling along Claremont Park at the weekend was occupied. Perhaps it was the same driver, recognising that I had disrespectfully continued on my way into the park rather than stopping, finding an hat, putting it on then doffing it until the procession had passed, as recommended.

@luath
I got a close pass from a big red Charlie Irons coach on Mon morning on Gorgie Rd. Maybe the same one?
Posted 8 years ago # -
@edd1e_h possibly same one. Last I saw he was city bound on Polwarth Terrace.
Of course, the fact I was still in his vicinity at this point shows how pointless the original overtake was. And that's with virtually no filtering on my part.Posted 8 years ago # -
As usual, heading from Dewar Place to Fountainbridge, I was in primary as I'd eventually be turning right and there is never enough space for anyone to overtake and the surface is horrible. When I got to the last straight the impatient nerk behind me pulled completely into the other side, almost swiping someone getting into a car on the other side, before skiddingly slowing to not hit the car turning left in front of it before turning left.

*yawn* Some dork in a small white fake SUV trying to overtake on Roseburn street as I was approaching the pinch point next to the chinese take away. I was in primary. Queue much slamming on of ABS. It's worth noting that they must have accellerated to WELL past 30 to try and get past in time in the first place.

@ARobComp - In the wee gap between traffic islands at the junction with Roseburn Place?

Bus / coach driver (maybe Stagecoach, was too angry and cold to note details) who overtook me on Shandwick Place beside the tram stop.
1st mistake: he didn't leave enough room when passing.
2nd mistake: he didn't finish passing before pulling back in. I could have touched the entire side of his vehicle.
3rd mistake: I was doing 23mph (according to Strava), so it wasn't like I was holding him up.Posted 8 years ago # -
(not my video)
Driver using three mobile phones. Tailgating and dangerously overtaking cyclists in the bus lane. Vehicle is untaxed,
and therefore uninsured.Seems that cyclist's previous interactions with the police have left him with so little confidence in them dealing with it that, in spite of all of the above, he doesn't see the point in reporting it.

Vehicle is untaxed, and therefore uninsured”
from what I understand no tax has no effect on insurance, no mot may do.

Thanks, you're probably right.

Lost it this morning with a young woman driver. She almost left hooked me as 1) she was took impatient to wait a few more seconds in the general lane of traffic, for the bus lane to end. Pulled (left) right into my path. We both emergency stopped - her because she heard my yelling.
She had been too busy looking in her visor mirror to apply her make up, than her wing mirror to see if it was safe to pull into the bus lane. She then raced past me up Montrose Terrace still applying her make up.
She was still applying make up whilst fully stopped at the ASL at the top of MT. Thats where she got both barrels in a Roy Chubby Brown stylee. Apologies to the two cyclists alongside me at that point for the language
A taxi nearly did something similar at Waverly Market. He just wasn't looking as he allowed his cab to roll from one lane to the other at a red light. My shouts made him stop about 3" from my front wheel.
TBF, he had the decency to apologise sincerely for his lack of due care and attention.
Apart from all that, I had a nice ride to work today, thank you!
