RT @EuCyclistsFed  If cyclists whine, we'll get nowhere. Be Swiss: offer solutions, and not just a list of grievances.

There was a time when it was said that cycle campaigners in Glasgow didn't get anywhere because they were always complaining. 'They should be more like Spokes'.

One person's complaint is another person's rational (or not) argument.

Spokes has been amazingly successful over the years, but I'm sure it wasn't just a case of 'you're doing so well, here are a few ideas of how things could be even better'.

Effecting changing is a complex business - with no set rules.

I suspect the 'authorities' in Switzerland are used to listening to people more...

Switzerland also hates cars. You only have to listen to Jeremy Clarkson on the subject. Apparently they had a directory listing registrations with people's contact details, address etc.... Suppose if this happened here self service justice/revenge would be rife.

Solutions are easy, they're just unpopular.

"Solutions are easy, they're just unpopular"

Neither part of that is absolutely true.

One problem is that politicians are no longer able to convince anyone about 'difficult' things.

Though they have the power (to some extent) -

As in 'there's this big debt WE have to pay it back - WE're all in this together.'

Not 'WE are all driving too much and it's not good for OUR health and it's costing the NHS too much'

Debt is a wrong, excess mobility is a right!
