Legionnaires' disease cases expected to rise...

@gembo I too saw the BBC article the other week about Legionnella from compost. Was slightly confused as it said it was transmitted probably from disturbing the compost and breathing in droplets, then recommended hand washing!

Apparently Legionella will and do live naturally in open water sources (e.g. ponds lakes reservoirs) although it is both below their ideal temperature for multiplying and requires the water to be disturbed and turned to droplets to form a hazard.

dr Dillner in guardian on line is my source for the two strains. I googled why does compost give you legionaires. Another triumph for the citycyclingedinburgh forum's emphasis on making sense of our world

"Is it safe to visit the affected area and should I take
    any precautions?

We believe the risk to travellers to be low at present and
there is no evidence to suggest that people should not
travel into south west Edinburgh. The situation is being
monitored and will be kept under constant review.

Why is there no FAQ: "Is it safe to be living in the affected area and should I take any precautions?" (e.g: should I keep my windows closed?)
Anyway, hopefully the source has been treated, and this is academic now...

Perversely, if you need hospital treatment then this might be a good time to attend ERI...it is much quieter than usual other than the people being admitted with Legionnaire's. It is a pity that people who are major time wasters are not so feart of catching MRSA, norovirus or C. Difficile, the latter of which can certainly be totally debilitating for the rest of your natural and is very nasty, but hey!!

C.dif a major annoyance, but noro is the killer.

Don't fancy my chances getting that again when i'm seventy..

It looks like it might be the distillery. They can't be sure yet but one of their towers is a potential and all have been shut down.

That makes sense as wind has been easterly for weeks and victims in Gorgie and Slateford. If it was the biscuit factory victims would have been juniper green, currie

Min yeah, we noticed the steam had stopped. That explains why.

Hopefully that'll be the end of it - although I heard there might be a few more cases over the weekend.

Well the Stones are male and quite old so they might catch the disease.

You can't tell with Charlie Watts. He is as expressive as Ron Mael.

And let's face it, nothing short of an axe through the head is going to see off Keef.
