Two cyclists who accelerated past me on either side as I was moving off from the lights at Elm Row. There were two whole lanes to use but they felt the need to trap me on their way through.

@dougal, you were the meat in the sandwich? That ain't too cool. I would not have appreciated that one little bit.

The man who helpfully slowed to ask a couple of cyclists beside an upturned bicycle if they needed help, whilst failing to monitor his position on the towpath, drifting to the right of the path as I was approaching in the other direction to the left. I shouted just in time for him to react and avoid a low-speed collision. I stopped to offer a pump to help reinflate a road tyre which had not taken kindly to the cobbles under the Kingsknowe Railway Bridge.

Rubbish stand-usage? Impatient huffing man, who seemed to be entertaining the bizarre notion that he should get an entire rack to himself at Cannonmills Tesco. I was only half-locked-up so offered to unlock to make it easier for him to get out but he seemed to prefer to carry on struggling, making huffy flapping motions with his hands and trying to rip out my brake cable with his saddle. Unfortunately I'd switched off the camera.

second close thing in 2 days on the Telford Path due to folk not thinking the give way markings apply to them.

  6. Young lady yesterday afternoon who cycled past me as I waited on my bike at the (red) temporary lights on Baird Drive / Baird Grove. "The red light applies to you too", I shouted after her - and then as she rounded the corner there was a screech of brakes as she met a car coming the other way which almost hit her head-on.

A future Darwin Award winner there.

I then had a conversation with a dog walker who witnessed the whole thing, before eventually realising that the lights were not registering me as I'd been there for over 5 minutes. Gave up, got off and walked round the corner on the pavement before remounting.

I caught up with the young lady again at the lights at Roseburn Gardens, which thankfully she'd decided to obey.

Bearded man on a road bike this morning on Kew Terrace Wester Coates. I was willing to forgive his Kamikaze-style of joining the road (i.e. blindly) however what he did immediately after - I cannot!

While I was in the process of overtaking him he decided it would be an ideal time to clear his nose. What should really have been a snot rocket was more of a fine mist of mucus. In. My. Face.

(inverness last commute home ride before i start edinburgh commuting :) )
cyclists stopped at red lights at busy junction and then decided to go through them, traffic on green coming from the left and merging got a tirade of angry abuse from said cyclist because "they cut him up" , when one of them let him in anyway, he then mounted the pavement and rode along that for a while, before dismounting into traffic.
he had hi vis clothing and helmet and decent bike. all he needs now is a better attitude!

Oh yes. Three lads came up Lothian Road on the wrong side and turned left and cycled the wrong way up Princes Street. About 10:15pm last night. No lights or anything and the traffic was quite busy and fast moving (is that section 20mph?) but I bet they got more space than I did trying to go the other way. It was so outrageous I just laughed...

The southbound cyclist on George IV bridge around 5.30pm on Friday who barrelled past stationary vehicles near the junction with Chambers Street and piled into a large group of pedestrians crossing. Despite the spectacular fashion of the incident, nobody seemed to be particularly hurt.

The cyclist unfortunately didn't learn any lessons from this and performed another couple of inadvisable manoeuvres before we parted company in the Meadows.

Male early 50s cycled into a crowd of people who did not disappear despite him ringing his bell repeatedly.

He justified this because "It's a F***ING street"

Yes the High Street at the Filling station stage at 5pm, Aug 9th.

He had chosen to ignore the Road Closed sign and the anti-terrorist barriers.

To even things up I spotted Danny Macaskill same place two days later.

Perhaps because his bike has no bell he didn't crash into anyone.

Yesterday's rubbish cycling was by me, on the Mound. Was irritated by the density of stupid festival traffic and so when confronted by a festivalite dodging the packed pavements by running down the advisory cycle lane with bag and flyers flapping I squeezed through the tiny gap brushing his elbow.

On CityWalkingEdinburgh he has posted my manoeuver as a punishment pass. No need for it at all, emotion got the better of me.

Suffered an unnecessarily close pass / cut-up by a cyclist at the very top of Colinton Road at home time. Not sure why it was necessary as I don't think there was any threatening traffic behind.

@iwrats whilst I see what flyer running guy is getting at, should he have been running in a cycle lane?

No, but pedestrians have right of way at all times, even stupid selfish ones. I gained little and may have frightened him. Mea maxima culpa.

Ok IWRATS if it works for you say a couple of Hail Marys.

Did running in cycle lane flyer guy mention in his post he was running down the road to skip past the slow moving peds?

For reasons of international solidarity I attended mass at the Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception in Stratherrick this month.

I also attended a church barbecue in this fair city where I chatted with a nice person who, it transpired, considers this first to formally constitute a Satanic rite.

I shall continue to place my faith in the hearts of Man, the scientific method and the rocks under my feet.

@iwrats, seems fair. Maybe go to Hutton's Section at Salisbury Crags and marvel at how enlightened Scottish men, women and children used to be then?

Runny flyer guy though needs to blog, I decided to overtake a lot of slow moving peds today by running on the road and was buzzed by irate IWRATS. Luckily for me it was not a properly segregated cycle lane. Even luckier for me it was a ticked off cyclist not a driver who gave me a punishment pass?

The idea of secular pilgrimage is dear to me. Hutton's section a local venue, the Burgess Shelf my Mecca?

Let's set up CityWalkingEdinburgh and pre-populate it with a Helmet thread and a Hills vs Pavements thread?

@iwrats ok but what is your position on brasher boots versus a cheap pair from decathlon or trespass?

so this is very minor, but it irritates me nonetheless - not particularly easy to tell from the video, but I have slowed down considerably after the bumps to allow some pedestrians to make their way to the pedestrian side of the shared path on Bruntsfield links - not really sure what the point of overtaking is in this situation... I just find it a bit inconsiderate when clearly I was braking for pedestrians in front...
