@ previous comments, as my employer supplies me with large dangerous vehicles, and continues to pay my mortgage et all, I adopt a very laid back attitude while at work, student types need was clearly greater than mine! Student type, youngish( I know ! ) looking studious, near university , ok my generalisation was well, general

  4. Well, rubbishish.

A Brompton rider undertaking a bike pulling a kiddy cave on a blind bend on the pedals side of a segregated path.

A rider pulling a kiddy cave yelling ( it felt aggressively) at cyclists to MOVE UP on a refuge at the two phase crossing oof south Gyle access

I was second in the line and had just asked the cyclist in front (politely) to move up as there were 5 bikes behind him.

The rubbishest cycling was cycling over a crossing that wasn’t clear knowing your kiddy cave would stick full into the carriageway...

Me, on slight downhill, following car towards a short section where the road narrows to one lane. I checked over my shoulder before moving out (occasionally a MGIFer will try to pass there) and when I looked back the rear of the car in front, which had slowed, was a much closer than before, and rapidly getting closer still.

Cue panicked braking, not helped by having hands on hoods, and mild skittering on the wet road. If there hadn't been space to go alongside, I would have hit the car. Lesson(s) learned.

Me today Palmerston Pl, watching the green light at Chetser street instead of the one at Glencairn crescent where i was in the ASL.... at the box junction cleared i started sailing through a red light. Stopped before causing any damage..,.. just as well i did as when the light changed a few seconds later a white BMW careered through on a clear red from Glencairn ...didn't feel i had the right to feel indignant

I was on the 'shared use path' on the north side of Peffermill Road about to turn into King's Haugh when an ambulance appeared from there with blue lights on.

Grabbed the front brake and entered a front-wheel skid. Let go of front brake and actually caught the skid. Feathered front brake and skidded again....let go and transferred to back brake.

Not sure what I missed about the surface, but it was certainly a failure to observe on my part.

Certainly is very greasy out there at the moment (leaf jam?).

I collapsed in a heap at the Polwarth Church last night when I put my foot down upon stopping at the lights at the end of Gillsland Road. My foot skidded out from under me and down I went, bike laden with weekly shop landing on top. I think I might have caught it had it not been for the shopping.

Fortunately none of my bike, self, BEER or eggs was broken

I do not think I would enjoy that concoction, particularly not when mixed with random mucky vegetables and served in an ancient Super C pannier.

Each to their own though. Could be the latest hipster fad?

I had to fetch water in a roll-top bag when bike-packing this year. Gave it a good wash first right enough.

me, for getting really angry with the motorist who overtook me at 30+ mph and then pulled immediately in front of me (into the bus lane I was in), leaving a gap of about 1 metre between my front wheel and their back bumper, before proceeding to jam on the brakes to slow down for the (you guessed it) red light ahead.

cretinous, but I should have let it slide rather than getting all shouty. sometimes it just seems too hard to rise above it... (would have been cool to bunny hop over the car though).

I had my first shouting at driver on Saturday when a bus undertook me, I did look a bit of a clown so will be my last shouting it just so happened the bus stopped outside my mates so I said to driver What are F you playing at you @r hole. He said I was too far to the right so he thought I was turning right. May be I was, cycled that way many times before without incident. Also driven that way many times and had bikes in front not sure if were going right or strait on. I have also driven 7.5 tonne truck when people were allowed to without licence (law changed in 2011?) but can’t help to think a bit of a cowboy way to drive a bus, although it may be we are used to Lothian driving slow and safe if was a private coach expect to drive badly. Although will try and make sure I don’t stay too far right. I have had many more dangerous incidents but it just this seemed sloppy driving rather than a did not notice someone which can easily happen or someone not expecting bike on corner.

    Actually yesterday evening's rubbish cycling.

About 7.30pm, driving towards Edinburgh along the Seafield Moor Road in the pitch black, and was completely blinded by an oncoming cyclist whose flashing front light easily exceeded "Death Star Superlaser" power. Carry on and that kind of behaviour will kill someone.

I was heading back to Waverley on QBC this affy about 4.40pm. Usual madness. I am on lecky bike so I am the daddy of the accelrators. This has not gone down well with a Young bloke. As I am bowling along I observe the car in front is turning left and slow to let this happen safely. Young lad comes up the inside, how very dare he. Anyway lecky bike catches him easily enough. I am then at lights prior to dick vet summer hall lights. Same young lad jumps up on to the pavement then back onto road to avoid the lights. Silly Billy. Clearly lecky bike then catches him easily enough and I am just about to give him a clip round the ear when he takes a potentially suicidal high speed left along the terrace towards Victor Hugo's. He appears to have been of the student fraternity.

    Actually last week but anyway...
Roadie fires past me whilst waiting at The Mayfield Rd/W Saville Terrace lights. Proceed to go through the next lot as well. Last seen losing one of their 9 lives on the grange/Causwayside lights when they didn't quite look closely enough and almost ended up being scraped off the road.
Have seen them before on the same suicide mission, I doubt that incident will change their behaviour.

George Street this evening, dark o' clock. Logjam of traffic going into Hanover Street blocking the roundabout as usual so nothing can move. Person on bike with no lights at all approaches roundabout from westbound lane while heading east, takes the roundabout the wrong way, jinks around a couple of logjammed cars to do so, then goes partway up the wrong side of street before cutting over the parking to get back over. Really nipped my head. Often when I see dodgy cycling manoeuvres I can see why someone might make that choice but this was just next level.

Kamikaze female who whizzed past me on a yellow road bike (with yellow and black skirt) going waaay too fast on the tow path this morning. Seemed she thought it was OK to ring her bell relentlessly, scattering pedestrians and, judging by their faces, alarming on coming cyclists as she squeezed herself in between them at the narrow B'muir bit. Late for work love?

Is it just me or do others feel the same about dafties cycling without any lights when it is clearly dark time ?? I can not even look at them in case they get hit.

Yes. I cycle spot when I'm on buses. Having little road confidence myself, I'm trying to educate myself by watching everyone else and making mental notes. The other night between Cameron Toll and Sth Clerk Street I saw 7 bikes heading south. Only one had lights (and props to them, they were really good lights). One of the unlit got very lucky indeed that someone pulling out from being parked saw them in their black jacket on their dark bike. I was wincing.

In saying that- i do admit to not using lights when on some lit cycle ways but after dark I dont cycle on them much cos of the neeps and neds etc.

Me, pretending to be a tram after ending up in the right hand lane at Waverley Bridge and going with the traffic-free flow via St Andrew's Square to reach N St Andrew Street. Just didn't fancy more of tonight's weirdly grumpy 9pm city centre traffic...

@unhurt: That's my favourite (albeit illegal) route to get from Waverley Br to George St (by cutting back down Meuse Lane). It avoids the invidious choice of either left turning into the left lane of Princes St and then being unable to get across the traffic to the right lane for the turn into S St David St, or taking the right lane from the bridge into the right lane of Princes St, incurring the wrath of drivers as I haul slowly up the slope, blocking their route to the green light at the S St David St junction.

a rider tonight - 4.30pm - just after Dalmeny heading towards FRB after the cycle path between the new houses comes straight of said path and onto the road into path of the very obvious large BMW already using said road - as i was behind i saw the lady getting a bit cross as she had to almost stop...

@Colonies_Chris yes, the choices aren't exactly inspiring there. I always think about keeping on up Market Street and right down The Mound then decide that's just as bad in its own way.
