Electric mountain bike - I got burned this week by a guy on one of these heading up the A89 past Uphall. He was flying on it, must have been close to 30mph and to be fair it did look kind of fun.

Today's rubbish cycling

Yesterday was probably me.
I remember entering the park, and as i approached the start of the cycle path by St Margaret Loch, thinking the path was covered in wet leaves, ill stick to the road as it will be less slippy.
My next memory is being loaded into an ambulance over 30 minutes later.
Strava fly by, and a park ranger, lilly, who looked after my bike, confirmed i went down on the roundabout behind Rockstar
When lilly found me, i was being looked after by a cyclist who was behind me. They described me as losing my back wheel, then going over the bars.
I was out cold and not breathing well. Luckily the next two on the scene were a nurse and a vet. They kept me right till the ambulance got there.
When i came to i didn't know who i was but did ask about my bike. I thought that was a joke but apparently we really do that!
Lots of grazes. Broken finger. Sore shoulder and a minor fracture between my ear and eye socket they will check out in livi next week when the swelling/bruising should be better.
Very surreal as I honestly don't recall anything after st mags loch.
Defo no motors involved, so I'm guessing i was either too fast hitting the roundabout, and/or my handling wasn't up to scratch once i skidded? Either way, im a very bashed and very sore but probably very lucky lad.

Must've been modified and/or illegal, as the motor is supposed to cut out at 15mph by law.

Ouch, Bikeability! Get well soon. There are a lot of leaves on the ground at the moment and it's easy to hit them at the wrong angle.

Where is this? I only know of Rockstar North but they're based in Greenside behind the Omni Centre.

Yeah rhe one in the park behind dynamic earth and the old scotsman office.
The hurts are bearable, the memory loss weird and the embarrassment huge.
Getting pampering though, so every cloud...

@BE Hope you get better soon. Had a close shave with some leaves this morning taking a scenic detour via Portobello on my way to work. Lots of folk at work mentioning the slippery leaves over the last couple of days but it can sometimes happen even when you think you are being careful.

nothing I can say that others haven't. just very glad you are okay and people came to your aid.
I was down that way today on the road and found it pretty hairy - cars don't seem to think they need to signal on those roundabouts?

Heading west on foutnainbridge rush hour time. First cyclist overtakes me, plenty of room, no problems. Guy behind him overtakes close and just as I'm dodging a pothole. Gack. Could have wiped his nose for him or jabbed him in the ribs with my elbow.
Typical Mamil. Bet he never noticed. Just cycled on.

Oh, ouch, ouch. Last time I fell off it was also on a roundabout. Diesel it was did for me - guy pulled out, I touched the front brake and went down like a ketamined kitten. Sometimes bike handling and roadcraft just aren't enough to keep you upright.
Call me a cheeky rat if you will, but may I request a temporary username change to Bikedisability Edinburgh until the fractures heal?

@BE - nae luck. The witness said you lost your back wheel then went over the handlebars.?You maybe tried to compensate in the forward direction for the loss at the rear? As you say the memory gap is curious. Best wishes for a speedy recovery

@SRD, I once had similar along Corstorphine Road, except it meant i couldn't avoid the pothole - and dropping anchor wasn't an option due to uninvited drafting behind me. Resulted in a blown tire, and me staring impotently from the side of the road as both gentlemen ran the red light 50m up the way.

GWS Bikeability.
Possibly me last week.
I've taken to making very big right turn signals if I'm pulling out to pass a parked vehicle, with the aim of asserting my space on the road and discouraging close passes. I was moving left after having completed such a manoeuvre when I nearly collided with a faster cyclist who was passing me on my left. I'm afraid I got rather shouty with him (I hate being passed on my left as much as others on here hate being wheel-sucked) but his shout that he thought I was turning right did make sense on reflection - I'll need to remember to check for faster cyclists behind in future.Posted 8 years ago # -

That can't be a regular occurrence!
I remember overtaking a mtb rider just after the zoo, when I went to pull in suddenly thought to shoulder check and he was still there. He must have really put the hammer down to catch the "roady" because I was flying coming down the hill. We both had a laugh.

I try to indicate severity of turn with the angle of my arm. Changing lane is a different kind of move from turning off. I wonder how much of that other people pick up on. People probably think I'm just being lazy.

Finally got why people complain about wheelsuckers this morning. Gave him a brake test. He failed. Apologies if that was someone from on here - I jumped straight passed the "invite them through" stage due to grumpiness.

Just after my light to turn right out of Gardner's Crescent turned green, an unlit person emerged from Fountainbridge. I had spotted them in advance, so was able to wait for them to pass from a good position from which to inform them of their chumpishness.
Someone drafting a Lothian Bus up Leith Walk on Monday at a very unwise distance. Someone else trying the same thing with a FirstBus a bit further up, which is really stupid given the fumes they emit.
