Funnily enough, I was half expecting a spot from a cyclist from this morning - I thought someone coming the other way gave me a long look, but I was concentrating too much on something my side of the road to notice whether I knew them. They might have just been being friendly (or thought they knew me and then realised they didn't...)

"Perhaps we could write to him for advice on the best way to negotiate this junction"

Good idea - not least because when it's been mentioned to him, he seemed quite happy with the way it is...

That's the trouble with 'experienced cyclists'.

    Jim Orr is one too.

And 95.4% of people on here.

actually, the last time we spoke, he acknowledged problems with surfacing, which is why I had hoped it might get on the list

    Or.... ;)

Back on the bike tonight - not ridden since Friday morning - looking forward to getting off my feet after a weekend walking everywhere!

I am sure someone on here has a magnificent sandy coloured beard. If you are the owner of said beard and passed me on the canal by Harrison Park about 5:45 today (you were heading west, I was waiting behind a couple of people to let you pass, you said thank you, I said you're welcome) then you were spotted!

Moderate excitement on my part as I never spot anyone as I dont know what any of you look like :-)

Join the club! I use the canal from Slateford to Cargo several times per week so it's pretty certain I've passed and been passed by some CCE people despite not knowing anyone. Though I was waiting at lights one night beside someone that I thought looked like the sort of person that would be on here and I was considering striking up a conversation, but alas I'm so very shy ;)

Along the canal I'm most frequently on my tourer which has an unusual means of storage affixed seemingly by magic to the top of the rack.

@twotired. That will have been uberuce - well spotted!

@allebong "someone that I thought looked like the sort of person that would be on here " and what would that be pray tell? loadsa panniers? earnest look? befuddled look?

    The plot thickens...

Bearded member of the Harrison Park Mob that I am, it wasn't me. I didn't get there until 18.20 or so, and don't use the actual canal path on my ride home; it's the one on HP West that runs parallel to it that I finish up on.

If it's someone on a steel bike taking pictures, the chances it's a CCEr are pretty high.

Back to T: I did spot cb of this parish in the wee French cafe up Comiston Road.

I see Uberuce all the time, and he is even more distinctive now on his new blingy Dolan track bike.

However, there is deffo another person with impressive beard (more sandy than yours bruce) who is either a native of the Harrison Park / Ashley area, or who visits regularly.

Dare I say it, he is a few years younger............

There's a few photos of weel-kent faces there, taken at one of the PY meets, which remain the best way of facing putty to names.

Given I'm barely out my teens, I find Nelly's last line a little dubious.

    Oh well moderate excitement denied!

I am also occasionally tempted to start up a conversation with passing cyclists in the belief that they may frequent this forum (in my head that is someone who looks at home on a bike) but like allebong I am crippled with shyness and think I just weird people out by starting!

@TT I was cycling along the canal path at about that time and I saw said bearded man. It was indeed a very eye-catching beard.

....and I too never spot anyone as I don't know what anyone looks like either!

    @SRD

I have this mental image of what I expect a CCE person to look like. First, place tongue towards cheek and imagine: grizzled look, likely with a beard, on a bike that's clearly done plenty of miles and is showing it, racks festooned with various panniers and items. Somebody who has been there and done it with a confidence that only battling Edinburgh traffic for years can give.

Probably not far off for some of you ;P

I like many of us I'm sure take on various cycle personas throughout the week which makes spotting all the tougher.

Me thinks all us lurking members should attend the next PY meet up. It will a little like attending some strange sort of mass blind date.

And my own personal delusions about being an excellent cyclist will no doubt be shattered by future spots of me. I live partly in dread, partly in hope (so I can apologise) that one of you turns out to be the gentleman I left hooked appallingly (no collision, just stupid cycling on my part) turning left onto Home St not long before I joined this forum.

I want to do PY but 7:30am on a Friday isn't happening for me without some considerable effort. I'm on a schedule just now where 10 or 11 am is a normal time to be getting up and I like my lie ins. Might be worth it for future spotting opportunities though.

The other thread is for evening meetings etc but hasn't had any interest so far. I was thinking about proposing a wee meet up in the meadows sometime but who knows how many would turn up.

No, that's Audax UK's stand at the York Cycle Show. :)

Uberuce on Myreside Road. We waved gravely to each other. Shortly afterwards I was punishment-passed by a taxi.

Egads, do they ever take a day off...

Spotted minimoth and lionfish. Looking more lidless than I've seen you previously, as indeed was I. I believe there is a thread quarantined for further discussion of this.

Two Helioses (Helioi?) In a short space of time in the Meadows this afternoon. One dropping its passenger off at Edinburgh Young Musicians, the other bearing SRD + coxswean heading east at speed. I was disguised as a pedestrian on my way back from the Bicycle Works where I had been talking to them about building a wheel with a dynamo in it.

What is the collective noun for two or more Helioses?
