kaputnik, I think. I was automobiled (and getting more and more annoyed about being so) at the western end of Princes Street, doing the shuffle from Lothian Road to Charlotte Square, and he nonchalantly freewheeled down the gap in between lanes to the front of the queue at the lights. Damned cyclists. Thinking they can get places more quickly.

@WC I spotted you a few (several? many?) minutes later as you sat in traffic (you are the traffic) in the queue for the roundabout at the east end of London Street. I waved but you did not see (SMIDSY). Bloody drivers. ;-)

@WC yes think that was me.
Reverse spot of WC on London Road this morning from the breakfast table, not by me but by the other half, who called out "oh, look! there's Chicken Man!*"
* she's seen your pictures on facebook, therefore you are Chicken Man

Arellcat, Morningside Road as I was being impressed by the pace of the gent in front of me, also on a dynamo-sporting fixie with bullhorns. If I'm still honking that nippily when I reach his age, I'll be perfectly happy.
Incidentally, Arellcat, have you ever Spotted without a reciprocal, when piloting the Red Torpedo? The disadvantage you're at is fairly epic.

Seems WC is officially back from exile but his haikus are better on facebook?
Posted 10 years ago # -
Could that have been LaidBack pushing a silver paper bike up the Mound at 19h15?
If it was, I was the weirdo on a ratty nineties hybrid looking at you quizzically.

Uberuce, I did once spot Dave while torpedoing, but I was hiding on top of a bridge at the time.

Well, if you're going to be known as something the 'Chicken Man' could be worse. Though he'd make a rubbish superhero.
gembo, there's reason behind the haikus. Watch this space.

I thought I spotted ED1 turning onto the George Street cycle lane yesterday evening from Frederick Street. I was thinking at the time "Dude, index your gears!" as I heard him before I saw him.
Alas it seems his bike came a cropper and someone broke them, resulting in the push-lawnmower noises emanating from the drive train.
Posted 10 years ago # -
Yes my bike had just broken in Morningside earlier. In George street I also had to stop to put the chain back on. When the chain was back on it was still making the noise. Avoiding 1st gear as 1st is gear is so bent out of shape the chain comes off. That is second gear the “smoothest one” I was in making the noise in 3rd is even worse. Yes a push lawnmower noise describes it well.

There was an unexpectedly high number of cyclists in the area around Stenton, especially given the early hour. One group appeared to be a club, wearing predominantly light blue tops (not Portovelo). Any suggestions for which?

Car-bound this evening as we headed into town along the A701, we came up behind a bespectacled chap at the roundabouts over the bypass. He was on a nice-looking Bianchi with a duck-egg blue* frame and tri-bars, and wearing matching duck-egg blue longs (with Bianchi on them too).
He was heading into town, and seemed to be unhappy about something that had happened at the south roundabout because he was gesticulating at the car in front of him.
He took a confident primary all the way over the bridge and north roundabouts, and we overtook him on the hill up to the Frogston Road traffic lights.
*apologies if this was your bike and it's not duck-egg blue, but that's what it seemed like from inside the car. Mrs Greenroofer thought it might be Cambridge blue, but then she's biased that way...

Angelo, customer of LBB, recumbing with presumable-son-of-Angelo, just by my bit. -edit- On seeing the 'love ride today' thread I see they were on their way out to Philipstoun.
Also saw a chap on an Airnimal Chameleon, who I assumed was EddieD, so chased him down with the intention of a blether until I realised it was a white-bearded gent.

There's something stuck to your back wheel, @DaveC...

I happened to spot someone coming towards me with Revolights or similar on Saturday evening on Fountainbridge.
Unfortunately the forward projection of these lights isn't really adequate (potentially due to low batteries?), as I only spotted the cyclist by their occlusion of the lights of the following vehicles.
Looked great side on, but as a "be seen" light from the front, it wasn't great - no idea what it was like from the rear.
Pity, as they look so cool...

Followed a youngish chap with a beard, coloured canvas trousers and canvas shoes up Hanover Street and the Mound this evening. He was on a flat-bar single-speed with shiny black mudguards and slightly fatter than usual tyres. His bike was a gorgeous purple.
He was trying to trackstand at each set of lights, but probably needs a bit more practice. He made a sterling ascent of the Mound on his single-speed: I was keeping up on my 6-speed Brompton, but he was definitely the one doing the harder work and making a very good job of it.
I lost sight of him by the Museum of Scotland.
Did I say that the bike was a gorgeous purple?

Roibeard, I saw a man in Broughton Street with the same arrangement the other day. he had proper lights too so forward projection wasn't an issue.
