Early days to begin to predict what will happen with the new coalescing Government.
One thing is certain - Edinburgh only has one MP in the Government parties.
Mr. Darling will perhaps have more time on his hands to deal with local issues. He and two of the other Labour MPs are known to 'support cycling' and have been members of Spokes.
The other one's views on cycling are unknown. As SRD posted previously
"Sounded out Labour candidate in South recently. Having received some very generic and negative campaign material from him, I asked what issue he thought was important for Edinburgh South and he failed to say much specific and nothing at all about transport or the environment. I also note that he is quoted in that EEN story about kids (gasp) having to walk to school saying "You can't ask kids to walk to a school that is 2.9 miles away."
Perhaps it would be worth contacting your new/returned MP and make them aware that not all their constituents are concerned with 'freedoms for motorists'.
Clearly a lot of the issues are not affected by Westminster (because of devolution), but MPs have to deal with local issues and talk to their colleagues in Holyrood and the City Chambers.
And there are more elections next year...
It would be nice to think that cycling as Transport/Health/Education etc. would have a higher more constructive/productive profile.
