Think this article is illuminating, those of us who have been cycling for a while perhaps get a bit blase about what we have to deal with daily, so a fresh perpective is welcome.

I'm amazed he still bothers. If I took that article and tried to sell bike travel to random people in the street, do you think even 1:20 would be up for trying it?

Poor chap. That's what's called a cry in the wilderness. Still at least he got it in the local rag. I look forward to the response article from his local transport convener who will no doubt roll out yards of flannel about the great things GCC are doing for cycling...

He is completely correct of course but I find it quite annoying that people come up with this stuff as if it is new when existing cyclists have been saying it forever and been ignored. He must have been ignoring it too since it has come as such a shock but now suddenly, because he wants to cycle, people must start paying attention. You see the same attitude from some drivers who don't care how many kids they might kill until they have one themselves, then they start demanding that everyone else drive carefully. They are right but it still annoys me that they didn't give a toss before.

This all sounds rather curmudgeonly but I suppose it just goes to illustrate that the only way to get better attitudes towards cyclists is to get more people cycling. They simply don't care until it personally affects them.
